I am 21 years old. For the past few month I am experiencing pain above the eyes and also headache. I also experience a heavy pain in eyes when suddenly exposed to sun light. Also every morning when I wake up I have pain above eyes and head with head congestion at least for 10 mins. I am much prone to cold nd fell sick of coldatleast thrice a month. Hi lybrate-user, The following are some effective natural remedies for treating headaches: Rosemary: Rosemary is very effective for treating headache caused by cold. Take a handful of this herb and boil in a litre of water and store in a mug. Cover your head with a towel and inhale the steam for as long as possible. Repeat this process till the patient is relieved of the headache. Beetle leaves: Betel leaf has analgesic and cooling properties. It should be applied over the affected part to relieve of intense headache. Clove: A paste made of clove and salt crystals in milk is very useful natural cure for headache. Salt has hygroscopic agents which absorbs fluid and decreases tension. Ginger: Ginger is an excellent pain killer. Make ginger ointment by rubbing dry ginger with a little water on a grinding stone. Apply this over the forehead for relief from headache. Henna: Henna flower cures headaches caused by heat of the sun. Make a plaster of henna flowers, add vinegar and apply this over the forehead. Lemon: Squeeze juice from three or four slices lemons into a cup of tea and drink this to get relief from headache. Lemon crusts are useful in headache caused by heat. Pound the lemon crusts in a mortar and make a fine paste. Apply paste on forehead for relief from headache. Applying yellow freshly pared off rind of a lemon on each side of the temple will also provide immediate relief. An infusion made of the leaves of marjoram should be taken as a tea for treatment of this condition. Peppermint: Drinking a few cups of peppermint tea is also very useful in treating headaches. Peppermint oil is very effective in relieving headaches due to tension. Dilute 3 to 4 drops of peppermint oil into one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and apply a small amount to the temples when the headache comes on. Add three drops of peppermint oil in warm bathing water and soak the patient in the water for about 15 minutes for relief from headache. Water: One or two large glasses of water also can relieve the person of headache because some headaches may be caused due to dehydration also. So a glass of cold water is the easiest and also effective natural cure for headaches. Lavender oil: Mix the oil with water and dip a clean piece of cloth into this mixture. Place the cloth on the region of pain to treat headaches. Eucalyptus: Take a few drops of eucalyptus and add it to boiling water. Remove from fire when steam starts to come. There are some people that are not able to take rest or go for a proper sleep until they finish the task they had undertaken. Such people are more prone to suffer from chronic fatigue and are always tensed and under some pressure. There are various home remedies that can store back your lost energy and rejuvenate you. Home Remedy for Fatigue 1. Take 3 drops of rosemary essential oil, 7 drops of lavender essential oil, 2 drops of peppermint oil, 1 cup of baking soda and 1 cup of sea salt. Place all the ingredients in an air tight container and shake well. Take some hot water in a bath tub and add all the ingredients just before going for bath. 2. Take a bath in this water for around 15 minutes and after that take a shower with cold water. Lavender provides soothing effect, rosemary provides energizing effects and peppermint provides upliftment. 3. An individual suffering from fatigue should have a proper nutritious diet. It will clear the pollutants stuck to skin and mucosal membrane. If possible, also try to eat three to four leaves at least twice a week. It helps to purify blood and lymphatic tissue.

  • Tulsi (basil) should be planted at every house to absorb the pollution. In addition, one should drink 10-15 ml of tulsi juice as it helps clear pollutants from the respiratory tract
  • Turmeric powder half teaspoon with 1 tablespoon of ghee or honey, should be taken empty stomach in the morning
  • One can put 2 drops of cow ghee in each nostril every day in the morning and at bed time to stay clear from pollutants., "It is important to have two to three teaspoon of homemade ghee daily. It is very much useful to chelate the toxic effects of metals like lead and mercury and does not allow them to accumulate in bones, kidneys and liver.

Aromatherapy is an ancient practice that dates back to ancient times across many cultures. This is a practice where concentrated oils are used to treat many imbalances and disorders within the body. The oils emit a fragrance or aroma, through which many important molecules enter your blood stream which have a healing effect. The oils can be applied on the skin and the aroma is then absorbed directly into the body through it. They can also be used as an aromatic agent where you need to sniff them in order for the molecules to get inside the body and then be absorbed into your blood.

What kind of oils are generally used in aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy uses essential oils similar to the ones used for massage in many other forms of alternative medicine such as Ayurveda and Chinese medicine. These oils have the organic compounds within the plants or respective sources concentrated into a small dose so it can pass on the benefits of those compounds to you, healing your body. Irritable Bowel Syndrome(IBS) - Know Its Treatment!

The human body with its multiple organs is a highly complicated structure and one or more organs often malfunction for various reasons. However, for some, no reasons are identified for this problem. One such is irritable bowel syndrome or IBS as it is commonly referred to.

It is a common disorder affecting the large intestine leading to alternate bouts of diarrhea and constipation, abdominal cramps and a feeling of fullness. It is common in people younger than 45 years of age, affects women more than men, and though the exact reason is not known, the following are attributed.

Physical/Physiologic reasons:

  1. Signal issues between the brain and intestines: For various or even unknown reasons, the brain may not be able to send the right signal to the stomach to process food, making the stomach to be hyperactive and have an increased sense of pain or sensitivity or discomfort. Neurotransmitters, which are chemicals responsible for sending signals to various organs also could be involved.
  2. Hormonal connection: Menstrual periods tend to aggravate symptoms of IBS, while postmenopausal women are largely free of IBS symptoms.
  3. Genetics: People with a family history of IBS are more likely to develop IBS too.
  4. Aggravating foods: Foods rich in carbohydrates, spicy foods, fatty foods, caffeine and alcohol aggravate IBS symptoms. Ability to absorb sugar could be a cause too.
  5. Infections: Some people with IBS have certain bacteria identified in their gut which produces excessive gas and this could lead to altered bowel movements.
  6. GI Motility Issues: Alterations in the way the food passes through the stomach can lead to either constipation (slow movement) or diarrhea (quicker movement). There could also be spasms and contractions after eating, especially if the stress levels are high.
  7. Psychological issues: Panic disorder, anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress disorder are common in IBS patients. It is possible that they are not able to express their psychological stress, it manifests as physical symptoms. Stress increases symptoms of IBS and vice versa.

Management:

  1. Manage stress: Meditation, yoga, support groups, medication and even hypnosis in severely stressed people helps control stress, providing great relief in IBS symptoms.
  2. Lifestyle changes: Reduce alcohol and smoking
  3. Dietary changes: Avoid aggravating foods, increase the amount of fiber if you have diarrhea and space out meals to avoid intestinal overload
  4. Herbal remedies: Probiotics, peppermint oil and a variety of herbal medicines are available.
  5. Symptomatic medications: Based on presenting symptoms, different medications including antibiotics for infections and motility drugs can be used. Anti anxiety and antidepressants are also prescribed to manage the psychological issues.
