Dermatitis involves the inflammation of a part of the skin. It usually consists of many skin related symptoms such as skin flakes, dandruff, rashes and eczema. Dermatitis on its own is not harmful but it can make you more self conscious about yourself and can give you an unattractive appearance. Eczema also known as Atopic dermatitis usually occurs when the skin starts to flex inside the elbows, front of the neck and behind the knees. Generally people experiencing atopic dermatitis experience episodes of sudden flare ups followed by improvement in eczema symptoms. It occurs due to the exposure of bacteria on the skin or change in environmental conditions.
A form of dermatitis known as contact dermatitis occurs when the skin is exposed to allergic substances. It is characterized by blisters and red rashes. Seborrheic dermatitis is another type of dermatitis which is characterized by scaly red patches of skin and stubborn dandruff. It affects the face, back and chest region. Infants also tend to be affected by this disorder.
A fungus (yeast) present in the oil secretion of the skin is the leading cause of seborrheic dermatitis. Symptoms usually aggravate and increase during the winters. You are more susceptible in developing dermatitis if you have a heart disease, HIV, asthma or an allergy. Treatment of Eczema is usually performed by a dermatologist.
