Dear Lybrateuser, - Depending on your bp & blood sugar level you may be prescribed medication by your physician - other than that you have to follow a healthy lifestyle: - restrict salt in diet, avoid sugar & sugar containing foods, also foods containing trans & saturated fats like bakery items, namkeens, also pickles, papads which have a lot of salt - use herbs like ginger, cinnamon, cardomom to flavour your tea, avoid alcohol & smoking if you do - have more of fibre containing foods such as fruits, vegetables including green leafy ones, whole grains instead of refined ones, legumes, sprouts, a handful of nuts per day like almonds, walnuts, pista, cashews, peanuts, seeds such as flax, sesame, chia - have 4-5 small meals rather than three large meals to keep your sugar levels stable, reduce carbohydrates & increase content of protein foods & heart healthy fats such as in fish like salmon, tuna, mackeral, nuts, avocados, flax seeds in your diet - do regular exercise such as brisk walking, jogging, swimming, moderate weight lifting for 10-15 min twice a week, also try to include yoga, meditation & deep breathing in your daily schedule - sleep well for at least 7-8 hrs at night, keep your sleep & wake up time fixed - destress by reading, listening to music or playing a game or following a hobby - regularly check your blood sugar & blood pressure, take medication on time reduce weight by diet & exercise.
