Sir I went to hyderabad in 2016 for 2 months coaching and due to bad quality of water I was loosing hairs from Bath to comb I was loosing about 10 to 12 hairs and after coming from hyderabad hair fall stopped now I usually loose 3 to 4 hairs from bath to comb but hair density has reduced so please suggest how to thicken hair and regrow lost hair.

Dear Lybrateuser, - For proper hair growth (unless there is some specific problem) follow some precautions: - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, protein rich foods (very important for repair & proper hair growth) like eggs, non veg, milk & milk product, legumes, sprouts, nuts such as almonds, walnuts, pista, cashews -restrict sugar rich foods, junk food s - have at least 7-8 glasses of water along with other fluids per day - reduce stress by proper sleep for 7-8 hrs at night - massage scalp with warm coconut oil & wash with a mild shampoo twice or thrice a week - avoid direct exposure to sunlight for a long time, wear a cap.

Dear lybrateuser, - Along with medication for your problem follow some precautions: - chew your food well, do not skip meals, have meals on time, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime, raise your pillow end by 4-6 inches while sleeping at night - avoid fried, spicy, sour & junk foods, also restrict intake of tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day - have 7-8 glasses of water along with other fluids per day - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, also do yoga for proper digestion & to keep yourself fit.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Yes, her problem can be solved once her hormone level is brought to normal by medication - also she should have more of fibre containing foods like fruits & vegetables, whole grains instead of refined grains, love fat dairy & healthy fats as in olive, canola oil, walnuts, seafood, avocado, also have more of protein rich foods like beans, lentils, pulses, sprouts (include an item with each meal & also as snacks to loose weight) - restrict fried, processed, carbohydrates & junk foods - do regular exercise like walking for 20-30 min daily - monitor thyroid hormone levels regularly till normalise with medication, consult an endocrinologist.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Your problem could be due to acidity - follow some dietary precautions: - chew your food well, do not skip meals, have meals on time, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime, raise the pillow end by 6-8 inches while sleeping - avoid fried, spicy & junk food, also limit tea, coffee intake to 1-2 cups per day, avoid alcohol & smoking if you do - have 8-10 glasses of water for proper digestion - do regular exercise like walking & yoga for proper digestion - take tablet Pan 40, 1 tab daily half an hour before meals - consult a doctor if not much improvement.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Get your thyroid, estrogen, progesteron levels checked - if there is any problem then the levels have to be corrected by medication - also follow some general tips for acne: - wash your face at least twice a day with a mild face wash & lukewarm water twice a day or whenever there is more sweat - avoid exposure to direct sunlight for a long time, apply a sunscreen lotion with SPF 30 or more - avoid oily, too much sugar containing & junk foods - have more of vegetables & fruits in diet - avoid picking with finger on the pimples if there as it will leave a permanent scar on the face - have at least 7-8 glasses of water for proper hydration -consult a doctor/ dermatologist for proper medication.

Dear lybrateuser, - Try & reduce your intake of water by 1-2 litres & see if frequency of urination decreases - also get a urine RE/ ME done to rule out any urinary tract infection.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Hair fall could be due to scalp problem, nutritional deficiency, inadequate sleep & regular exercise, hormonal imbalance, stress & hereditary - have a well balanced diet with more of fruits & vegetables, whole grains, protein rich foods such as eggs, non veg, beans, lentils, pulses, soya products, tofu, sprouts, nuts - have plenty of oral fluids including 8-10 glasses of water per day for proper hydration - sleep well for 7-8 hours at night - wash hair with a mild medicated shampoo with lukewarm water - consult a dermatologist / trichologist for proper medication after examination.

Too Much Salt In Diet - How It Can Damage Your Body?

Around 40% of adults all over the world suffer from hypertension, and many may not know that too much of salt in the diet is the leading cause of developing high blood pressure. Recent studies from the Dietary Approaches to stop hypertension have shown the advantages of taking a lower amount of salt. But the real problem is that most people find salt to be tasteful just like sugar, and this tends to cast its harmful effects on overall health.

What happens to the body when you take too much of salt?
Salt contains sodium, and the kidneys find it difficult to maintain their optimum function when there is an excessive amount of sodium in the bloodstream. When sodium starts to accumulate, the body holds back water for diluting the sodium which enters the blood vessels thereby, increasing the volume of blood in the stream. When this happens, the heart has to overwork, and more pressure will be exerted in the blood vessels. With the passage of time, the excess amount of pressure would stiffen the blood vessels which would pave the way for stroke, heart attack or even heart failure.

What are the signs and symptoms of taking too much sodium?
Most people are generally unaware that there is an excessive salt intake and hence could be dangerous. Therefore, it is important to look for signs that your body is pleading to reduce the consumption of salt.

  1. You start feeling very thirsty: When you eat foods with high amount of sodium such as chips, pepperoni pizza, and ketchup, you are likely to feel dry. This is because of the high amount of sodium that troubles the balance of fluid in the body which makes you crave for water so that it can restore the salt balance.
  2. Your body starts to swell at strange places: You may feel bloated in the morning when you take too much of salt. This phenomenon is termed as edema which means swelling of extra fluid in the tissues of the body.
  3. You may develop stomach ulcers: Taking too much sodium is associated with stomach ulcers as well as cancers in mammals according to the recent journal Infection and Immunity. Even though more research is required, there is no harm in reducing the amount of salt in the diet and enjoy a healthy life.

Research also indicates that reducing the amounts of sodium can lower death rate over the long term. Hence, it is advisable to stick to the recommended amount of 2300mg which is equivalent to one teaspoon of salt per day to lead a healthy life. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a General Physician.

Dear lybrateuser, - To prevent any nutritional deficiency which can lead to hair loss you have to have a well balanced diet - have more of fruits & vegetables including green leafy ones, whole grains like wholewheat, brown rice, oats, quinoa, corn instead of refined ones, have more of protein rich foods, eggs, non veg, milk & milk products like cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, butter milk, soya products, tofu, beans, lentils, pulses, peas, sprouts, nuts like almonds, walnuts, pista, cashews, peanuts - have a protein food with each meal, also have as snack between each meal - have plenty of oral fluids including 7-8 glasses of water for proper hydration - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, cycling, also do moderate weight lifting 2-3 times a week, also do yoga & deep breathing for proper blood circulation.

Dear lybrateuser, - Your neck pain could be due to a soft tissue( muscular) problem - do minimal neck movement - apply pain relief gel lightly on affected area three times a day - take a pain relief tablet after meals 2-3 times a day - use a firm pillow for proper support of neck & shoulders while sleeping - if pain is of long standing then x-ray cervical spine can be done to rule out any bony injury or problem.

Dear Lybrateuser, -Do hot water bag fomentation of the affected area for 5-10 min 2-3 times a day - take an antispasmodic tablet if pain is more - do urine RE/ ME (routine & microscopic examination) to rule out any urinary tract infection.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Avoid too much neck movement - apply pain relief gel three times a day - take pain relief tablet two to three times a day - sleep on a firm pillow which gives proper support to your neck & shoulders while sleeping - consult a physiotherapist for neck exercises, if pain is more traction is required - get an x- ray cervical spine done to rule out any bony problem.
