Migraine is a form of headache that is known as Sooryavata according to Ayurvedic principles. Such headaches worsen during sunrise, peak during the afternoon and tend to reduce during evening. Migraine occurs because of an excessive stimulation of blood vessels in the brain. A person affected with migraine is likely to experience nausea and vomiting, along with a throbbing headache on one side of the head. Migraine headaches can be caused due to hormonal changes, allergy from certain food items or excess stressApart from regular exercises and a proper diet, the most effective Ayurvedic remedies for dealing with migraine headaches are as follows:

  • Shirolepa or the applications of herbal pastes on the head is effective for pacifying pitta dosha. Camphor, jatasmansi, and sandalwood are also effective.
  • Shiro Dhara, an Ayurvedic therapy, where a thin stream of liquid is poured over your scalp is helpful.
  • Taila dhara is effective for migraine headaches as well, in which oils such as chandanadi taila and ksheerabala taila are used for treatment.

Cluster headaches
Cluster headaches refer to headaches on one side of the head. It is known as Suryavartham according to Ayurveda. These consist of a series of short, but painful headaches, stretched over weeks or months together. Such headaches occur because of disruptions in the nervous system. Usually, the pain starts early in the morning in the eyes. There are several Ayurvedic remedies for the management of cluster headaches. Some of them are as follows:

  • Use an ointment or paste made of dried ginger and Kermpferia.
  • Use a paste of Indian aloe vera, asafoetida and coriander for pain relief.
  • Grind cumin seeds and mix it with lemon juice. Keep the mixture on the painful area of your head for quick relief.

How Ayurveda Helps Treat Ovarian Cysts?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

How Ayurveda Helps Treat Ovarian Cysts?

Ovarian cysts is a common problem that affects women in their childbearing years. These cysts develop inside the ovaries at the time of ovulation.

These cysts are of four main types:

  1. Polycystic ovaries

  2. Endometriosis

  3. Cystadenomas

  4. Dermoid cysts

In most cases, ovarian cysts resolve themselves, but in some cases they can cause pain and grow.

Ayurveda is a holistic form of alternate medication that can be quite effective when it comes to treating ovarian cysts. This form of medication has negligible side effects and hence, can be prescribed to women of all ages. Apart from medication, Ayurveda also involves changes in lifestyle and diet. Ayurvedic herbs help balance the hormones in a woman’s body and thereby improve the overall functioning of the ovaries as well.

Some of the Ayurvedic herbs used in the treatment of ovarian cysts are as follows:

  1. Guggul: This herb has the potential to revitalise cells and can rejuvenate a person. Guggul or commiphora mukul also has purifying properties that helps regulate lipid production and increase iron levels in a person’s blood. It also helps in weight loss and increases metabolism.

  2. Shilajit: The Ayurvedic herb asphaltum or shilajit improves stamina and the ability to deal with physical and mental stress. It is also known to increase sexual desire and enhance libido for both men and women.

  3. Amalaki: Amalaki or emblica officinalis is best known for its ability to rejuvenate cells and rid the body of free radicals. It also helps boost immunity, aids in the development of healthy skin and slows down the aging process. Amalaki helps with digestion and boosts metabolism along with maintaining the proper functioning of the liver.

  4. Aloe: Aloe is the most common Ayurvedic product used for skin care and anti-ageing products. Apart from skincare and hair care, aloe also helps relieve hypertension and has well known antioxidant properties. Additionally, it helps deal with high blood pressure and respiratory problems.

  5. Vitamins and minerals: Some vitamins and minerals boost immunity and have the ability to destroy abnormal cells such as cysts. Zinc helps prevent ovarian cysts, helps the body get rid of free radicals and aids in normal cell growth. Vitamin B complex helps in converting excessive estrogen into less weaker forms and hence balances hormone levels. Antioxidants like vitamin A and E protect the cells against damage and abnormal changes in the cell growth. Vitamin C also helps boost immunity and gives the body the ability to fight illnesses and infections. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda and ask a free question.

Migraine

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad

A common neurological syndrome, Migraine is characterized by altered bodily perceptions, severe pounding headaches, nausea and irritability. This pounding or pain usually begins in the forehead, the side of the head or around the eyes and gradually gets worse. Bright lights or loud noises can worsen the condition. The headache can last for two hours or even up to two or three days.

Causes

Change in weather conditions, missing a meal, stress, alcohol and certain types of food items are considered to be common causative factors of Migraine. About 50% of women claim that their menstrual periods happen to be a significant trigger. Additionally, allergic reactions, exposure to loud noises or certain odors, smoking, or long exposures to computer screens/televisions could lead to Migraine attacks.

Symptoms

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Headache

  • Irritability

  • Depression or euphoria

  • Fatigue

  • Excessive sleepiness

  • Craving for certain food items

  • Altered mood

  • Constipation or diarrhoea

  • Increased urination

  • Stiff muscles (especially in the neck)

Ayurvedic View

The traditional science of Ayurveda does not regard Migraine as a case of prolonged headaches. On the contrary, it considers this condition to be caused by deep-rooted problems, including a sensitive nervous system and impaired digestion.

Improper diet and lifestyle causes aggravation of Pitta (Ayurvedic humor representing Fire) in the body. In an aggravated state, Pitta impairs digestion, leading to production of digestive impurities (known as ama). This ama gets stored in the manovahi strotas (mind channels), thereby becoming the cause for pains in migraine.

A sensitive nervous system lowers the ojas (energy) in the body. Ojas is the essence of all body tissues and provides strength to the nervous system and body. If you have a strong nervous system, you are able to fight against problems and carry on with your work with a healthy mind. Lowering of ojas causes migraine-like problems.

Ayurvedic treatment of Migraine therefore is centered on the pacification of Pitta Dosha, and restoration of digestive function in the body. Nervine tonics are also recommended to enhance the ojas, relax the mind and give strength to the nervous system.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Avoid hot, spicy foods, fermented foods, white sugar, white flour products, and sour or citrus fruits, because they aggravate the Pitta in your body.

  • Drink more water and eat more fiber, fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.

  • Avoid excessive sugar or salt, refined foods, animal products (meats and dairy), caffeine, tea, and alcohol, as these items will further lead to aggravation of Pitta.

  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun, as migraine headaches are predominantly a Pitta disorder and can be triggered by the hot sun.

  • Head massage with Bhringraj Oil is also beneficial. This massage gives a calming effect to your nervous system.

  • Headaches caused due to tension and worry can be alleviated through deep breathing and relaxation, especially in a lying down position in a quiet place. Inverted postures, or those where the head is lowered briefly, increase oxygen to the brain and can reduce headache-causing strain.

Home Remedies

  • If there is a burning sensation with you migraine headache, apply a paste of ground clay or sandalwood powder mixed with rose water.

In case of migraine headache due to inflamed sinuses, inhale steam with vinegar added to the water.

  • Mix ¼ teaspoon of clove powder with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon oil. Apply this paste on the affected area for 20-30 minutes.

Premature Ejaculation

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad
Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation
Ejaculation of the semen with minimal sexual stimulation, or before the man and his partner wish, is known as premature ejaculation. If this happens frequently, it can cause distress and problems in the relationship.

Causes
The cause of pe could be temporary depression, stress, anxiety, a history of sexual repression, or a lack of emotional bonding between the partners. Physical disease can also be the reason, such as a swollen prostate gland (prostatitis), diabetes, sexually transmitted diseases, or cardiovascular disease.

Ayurveda compares shukra dhatu (semen) to purified butter. Just as purified butter melts in the presence of heat, semen loses its consistency when there is pitta (fire) aggravation in the body. Aggravated pitta travels into the channels carrying semen, causing semen to decrease in consistency, and thus it gets ejaculated before sufficient erection. Biological and psychological factors can also play a role in causing premature ejaculation.

Symptoms
Ejaculation before penetration

Ayurvedic view
According to ayurvedic perspective, premature ejaculation is caused by aggravation of vata (air) and pitta dosha at the commencement of physical mating. These doshas can be aggravated by anxiety or nervousness before the sexual act. Vata is characterized by its qualities of quickness and heightened sensitivity to the sense of touch. This gives a predisposition towards quicker ejaculation. Pitta plays a role in thinning of the semen, thereby supporting its early ejaculation. Secondly, these aggravated doshas cause hyperactivity of muscles in the male organ, thus increasing sensitivity to vibration and hence leading to early ejaculation.

Ayurvedic treatment of premature ejaculation is aimed at keeping the vata and pitta in balance by eating a balanced diet. Problems of stress and anxiety during sexual intercourse can be effectively dealt with rejuvenating herbs, yoga, meditation and counseling.

Vitiligo

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad
Vitiligo

Vitiligo

Vitiligo or Leucoderma is a pigmentation disorder in which melanocytes (the cells that make pigment) in the skin are destroyed. As a result, white patches appear on the skin in different parts of the body. Similar patches also appear on both the mucous membranes (tissues that line the inside of the mouth and nose), and the retina (inner layer of the eyeball). The hair that grows on areas affected by Vitiligo sometimes turns white. The most widely accepted view is that the depigmentation occurs because Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease - a disease in which a person's immune system reacts against the body's own organs or tissues.

Causes

In Ayurveda, the reason behind autoimmune diseases is mostly virudh aahar sevan, that is, eating foods that are opposite in nature (such as eating fish and milk together). This results in toxin formation inside the body, which ultimately disturbs the immune system due to which the pigment producing melanocytes cells get degenerated, causing Vitiligo.

Additionally, Vitiligo is said to be associated with certain auto-immune and inflammatory diseases such as Thyroid, Diabetes, Psoriasis and Pernicious Anemia. Vitiligo may also be hereditary; that is, it can run in families. Children whose parents have the disorder are more likely to develop Vitiligo.

Symptoms

  • White patches on skin

  • Premature graying of scalp hair

  • Loss of color inside the mouth

Ayurvedic View

According to Ayurveda, Vitiligo or Shwitra is caused due to aggravation of Pitta in the body. Pitta is an Ayurvedic humor that symbolizes fire and is manifested in the skin, along with other organs. Pitta is of five types. One of them is Bhrajak Pitta, which gives coloration to the skin. In the case of Vitiligo, Bhrajak Pitta gets imbalanced, leading to the formation of ama, which consequently impairs deeper body tissues such as rasa dhatu (nutrient plasma), rakta (blood), mamsa (muscles) and lasika (lymph). This ultimately causes depigmentation of the skin.

The disease is deep rooted and needs specific treatment that includes right diet and specialized herbal combinations to pacify Pitta and cleanse ama from the body.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Whole grains like porridge and whole wheat products are better than highly refined carbohydrates like pasta.

  • Adequate hydration is an important component of healthy diet which should not be ignored.

  • Foods rich in Vitamin C such as citrus fruits, tomatoes, and green tea should either be avoided or consumed in minimal quantities.

  • Avoid eating non-vegetarian foods like fish and red meats, as they may be highly antigenic and may worsen the autoimmune process. Also avoid eggs, milk, and dairy products.

  • Alcoholic and flavored drinks, ice creams, chocolates and any form of junk food is not recommended.

  • Avoid intake of sour foods like pickles, sour yogurt, and sour strawberries.

  • Neem in any form is useful. Mung dal is also good.

Home Remedies

  • Drink water kept in a copper utensil overnight. This is known to have a stimulating effect on the melanocytes and thus helps in increasing melanin production.

  • Take 5 teaspoons of turmeric powder and mix in 250 ml of mustard oil and apply on the white patches of skin, twice a day. Use this treatment regularly for one year.

Chronic Kidney Disease

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad
Chronic Kidney Disease

The kidney disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality now a days. There are serveral reasons for getting into the renal failure but one of the most important causes are chronic blood pressure and chronic uncontrolled diabetes. Synthetic drugs for uric acid and other diseases are also one of the reasons in some cases and in some cases the nephrotic syndrome, nephritis and auto-immune diseases are the cause.

No matter whatever is the cause, once the creatinine level goes beyond the limits, it becomes very difficult to bring it back in the range. There are however certain natural herbs and ayurvedic remedies which have shown excellent results in lowering down the creatinine levels without causing elevation in the potassium levels or affecting the sugar levels. The herbs used together helps to improve the overall health and improve kidney functin.

Chronic Kidney Disease Due To Diabetes And How To Avoid Dialysis?

Although people with type 2 diabetes are at greater risk of kidney problems, but still the stage of arriving in kidney failure can be prevented by taking care of sugar levels. If the stage has already come and the patient is in chronic kidney disease phase, then there are certain ayurvedic herbs which should be used along with whatever treatments are going on. It can be even dialysis also.

Controlling diabetes by lowering blood sugar, dieting, exercising, is very important to keep sugar levels in control. Even blood pressure levels should be kept in control in natural ways rather than consuming pills. Pranayam (Breathing exercises) are the best to keep things in control. Please check video by Dr. Vikram Chauhan on breathing exercies and how to do them and how to avoid dialysis by regularly doing Pranayam.

Symptoms And Signs Of Kidney Failure

There are specific interventions, such as limiting salt in the diet that can help prevent the progression of kidney disease in people who have the early signs.

Protein in Urine - In uncontrolled chronic diabetes, the most important sign is the leakage of large amount of proteins in the urine.Very large amounts of protein in their urine -a marker of kidney disease, which is evidence of moderately impaired kidney function or difficult-to-control hypertension.

One particular patient, a man in his mid-50s, had all of the above. At 30 ml/min, his glomerular filtration rate, or GFR-a measure of kidney function-suggested he already had moderate to severe damage. He had a large amount of protein in his urine, poorly controlled hypertension, and poorly controlled blood sugar. After using Ayurvedic remedies for about 1 month, things improved dramatically. Similarly there are many other success stories where patients were on regular twice weekly dialysis and their frequency of dialysis reduced to once in fortnight. We consider this also a big achievement. In many cases, the dialysis was avoided all together, after about 6 months to 1 year of treatment.

THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT KIDNEY FAILURE:

If tests reveal a problem, your doctor will recommend ways to slow the decline in kidney function and prevent kidney failure, which include the following:-

  • Controlling your blood sugar
  • Controlling your blood pressure
  • Taking blood pressure medicines

But according to ayurveda, the most important thing is to change your diet from acidic to alkaline. Improve your breathing pattern. Start doing breathing exercises as suggested in the link above.

Diseases like Diabetes and blood pressure are leading cause of kidney failure. Nature has given us powerful herbal remedies which can be wondeful herbal care for chronic kidney failure patients. The herbal remedies offered by us are free from any chemicals and contain only natural ingredients without causing any side effects. These are 100 % vegetarian and natural products for kidney failure, which can be taken along with any treatment of modern medicine. These herbal remedies not only help to avoid dialysis but also aid to revive the kidney failure in a very smooth and natural way. These herbal remedies are the best products for kidney care and useful to lower down increased urea and creatinine levels. These supplements are Mutrakrichantak Churna, Punarnava Mandur, Varunadi vati and Rencure Formula.

How To Avoid Dialysis?

The herbal products like Mutrakrichantak Churna contain herbs like Punarnava ( Boerrhavia diffusa) and others which have remarkable properties to reverse the kidney failure. "Puna" means again and "Nava" means New. So this herb helps to revive the kidneys. This is one of the best herbal remedy for kidney failure and an excellent alternative to avoid dialysis.

Herbal Remedy For Kidney Failure

The herbs lke Punarnava, Varuna, Tribulus, Shigru, Apamarg etc. are described in ancient Ayurveda texts - 5000 B.C old system of healing practised in India. These herbs are excellent to revive kidney failure and lower down swelling, reduce volume of accumulated fluid and thereby increasing the chances of revival of kidneys.

Psoriasis

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad
Psoriasis

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a non-contagious common skin condition that causes rapid skin cell reproduction resulting in red, dry patches of thickened skin. The dry flakes and skin scales are thought to result from the rapid buildup of skin cells. Psoriasis commonly affects the skin of the elbows, knees, and scalp.

Causes

Psoriasis can be caused by a variety of reasons. Heredity can be crucial. If one parent is affected, then there is 15% of chances for the child to suffer from psoriasis. If both the parents are affected then the possibility of child getting the psoriasis is 60%. Consumption of opposite foods (such as fish and milk together), trauma on skin like cuts, bruises or burns, some medicines or skin irritants, excessive smoking, alcohol consumption and mental stress or psychological trauma can also be responsible for causing it.

Symptoms

  • Loose silvery scales
  • Itching or burning skin
  • Raised pus-filled skin bumps
  • Skin redness around pustules
  • Restricted joint motion
  • Emotional distress
  • Skin pain and inflammation
  • Skin blisters
  • Dry skin patches
  • Bleeding skin patches

Ayurvedic View

According to Ayurveda, Psoriasis appears due to imbalance of two doshas - Vata and Kapha . Vata and Kapha doshas manifest in the skin and cause accumulation of toxins. These toxins accumulate in deep tissues like rasa (nutrient plasma), rakta (blood), mansa (muscles), and lasika (lymphatic). These toxins cause contamination of deeper tissues, leading to Psoriasis.

Purification of blood and tissues is the primary aim of Ayurvedic treatment in cases of Psoriasis. Toxins are cleansed from the body and the digestion restored to prevent further accumulation. Nourishing herbs are then administered to strengthen and tone the tissues to promote complete healing of the skin.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Avoid consuming opposite foods.
  • Do not control natural urges like vomiting, urination, bowels, etc.
  • Do not take cold water bath immediately after a heavy workout, traveling, a long walk, etc.
  • Take care not to consume foods which cause indigestion.
  • Absolutely do not eat too much of salty, sour or acidic foods.
  • Avoid sleeping in afternoons.
  • Say no to radish, sesame, jaggery (gur), curds, fish and other sour foods.

Home Remedies

  • Cover the affected part with a fresh thin banana leaf.
  • Take 15-20 sesame seeds and soak in a glass of water. Keep it overnight and drink on an empty stomach early in the morning.
  • Take 1-2 cup of bitter gourd juice on empty stomach in the morning. Continue this for 5-6 months. Patient may add a tablespoon of lime juice, if they find it difficult to digest the bitter taste.
