What is the remedy about?

High blood pressure can be considered as a serious health condition that may lead to a stroke, heart attack or a kidney failure.   • Lemons, a rich source of vitamin C, can help you decrease your chances of having a heart failure. Also, it helps to keep the blood vessels in your body soft and flexible. When the rigidity is gone, your high BP will also be reduced. Every morning, squeeze one-half of a lemon in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it regularly on an empty stomach. It is better if you do not add sugar or salt to the mixture.
  • The seeds of watermelon contain a compound that is known as cucurbocitrin, which aids in widening your blood capillaries and improves the functioning of the kidneys. This would, in turn, reduce the level of your blood pressure. Grind a few watermelon seeds that have been dried with some poppy seeds. Consume a small spoon of the mixture once early in the morning, on an empty stomach and once in the evening. Continue having it on a regular basis.
  • Garlic can efficiently help in relaxing the blood vessels as it can stimulate hydrogen sulphide and nitric oxide production. These compounds help to promote the flow of blood, remove gas and also reduce the pressure on your heart. Take 1 or 2 peeled garlic cloves, crush them and eat it in the morning on a regular basis.
  • Coconut water helps to lower your blood pressure. Being rich in vitamin C, potassium and magnesium, it helps in decreasing systolic blood pressure. You can drink coconut water regularly and use coconut oil for cooking purposes.

Are there any side effects?

The possible side-effects of these remedies could be:

  • Consuming too much of lemon water can erode your tooth enamel due to its high acidity content. It could also make your teeth sensitive, especially when you are having food that is hot or cold. Apart from this, the acid present in lemon water can also cause a stomach upset if consumed in a large amount.
  • Consuming raw garlic can cause bad breath as well as body odour. It can also be the reason for nausea, gas, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn or a feeling of burning sensation in your mouth or in the throat. In case you have undergone or are scheduled to undergo a surgery, consuming garlic and cause prolonged bleeding.
  • When you drink coconut water, you are also consuming sodium. Too much of sodium content can increase your risk of having stomach cancer.

What are the post-remedy guidelines?

The post remedy guidelines include:

  • It is advisable not to lead a sedentary lifestyle. There should be some amount of physical activity that you need to be involved in.
  • Maintain a diet that includes a lot of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy products that are low on fat.
  • Avoid having salt as much as possible. You can add it in your cooked food in small amounts, but try having it as less as possible in its raw form.
  • Limit the amount of alcohol that you are consuming.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Do not stress yourself. Take out time to relax and do things that you genuinely enjoy.

How long does it take to recover?

The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood to the entire body through a network of arteries and veins. This network contains big vessels which branch out further to supply blood to the distant organs. There is, therefore, some pressure that the heart and thereby the vessels need to exert to push the blood through these vessels. This is known as blood pressure, and normal pressure levels range from 90-140(systolic)/60-90(diastolic) mm of Hg. However, due to various reasons, this pressure could be more, which is one of the first signs of heart disease. Causes of increased blood pressure: Thickening of the blood vessels. With age, the elastic blood vessels naturally turn rigid and less elastic, so there is more pressure required to push blood. It is natural for people over 55 years of age to have higher readings of blood pressure. This is known as primary hypertension (HTN) Narrowed blood vessels. This happens due to cholesterol accumulation along the walls of the blood vessels. Faulty dietary habits along with sedentary lifestyle have increased the incidence of hypertension due to this condition, known as atherosclerosis. Critical atherosclerotic narrowing of renal arteries lead to renovascular HTN that is one of the commonest of secondary HTN. Other Causes of secondary hypertension are: Kidney problems Thyroid hormone disorders Congenital heart defects Chronic alcohol abuse Adrenal gland tumours Chronic use of medications like birth control pills, pain killers, etc. Unidentified and uncontrolled hypertension can be silent and can lead to more severe conditions like heart attack and stroke. India is fast becoming the new hypertension capital of the world. Some of the common risk factors are: Age Family history Being obese or overweight Sedentary lifestyle Smoking Alcohol consumption Excessive salt intake Stress levels Ethnic background Symptoms: Hypertension can go undetected for years together, but if there are risk factors like diabetes and high cholesterol, it is advisable to periodically monitor blood pressure. Headaches, nosebleeds, and shortness of breath should not be ignored. These can be the first warning signs of hypertension, and if detected early, preventive measures can be taken. If there are co-morbid risk factors, it is advisable to constantly keep a check on BP readings. Management: This includes a combination of diet and lifestyle modifications. Quit smoking and alcohol: Of the many wonders quitting smoking can do, reducing BP readings is just one. The improvement would be almost instantaneous. HI lybrate-user If BP is significantly high it may need medications definitely. The other means to control BP in addition are to reduce extra salt intake in our daily diet like pickles/ papads/ processed foods. Etc. Keep salt intake less than 6 gram per day. Regular walk and exercise in addition to relaxation practices like pranayama and meditation may help.

You are too young to have this high BP, so first we need to understand what is causing this rise in BP, for which you will need the following Investigations - ECG, ECHO, RFT, LIPID PROFILE, LFT, so that we can find the cause of this and treat acoordingly. Consult with these reports. And you should begin with lifestyle measures and precautions like - 1) Start exercising daily, begin gradually and increase to 40-45 mins. 2) Eat healthy, avoid fried, sugary food. Avoid food with high salt content like chips, sauces, pickles etc 3) Quit smoking and drinking if you do. 4) Avoid take too much caffeine.

What are the causes of BP? How to know sign of BP? How to recover bp at normal stage with home remedies? I have just 30 years. But I do not have sign of pain in chest. Sweat sign. But I have sign of hypertension and eating too much food and also non veg. Is this problem dangerous? I have just married. I have 145/95 bp, some time 135/90. How to cure problem. Please.

1.no alcohol 2. Reduce body wt 3. No smoking/ tobacco 4. Diet - no ghee/ butter, have mix of vegetable oils - mustard, til, ground nut, olive oil, have more green vegetables and fruits, have whole grain atta, no fried. Fast. Spicy / processed/ junk food. Less sugar, potato, rice 5. 30 mts brisk walk daily 6. Deep breathing exercise for 10 mts daily 7. Meditation daily for 10 mts. 6-8 hrs of sleep at night 8. Expose your body to sun for 15-20 mts daily after some oil massage to get vit d. 9. Take more water for medicine and further advise contact on private chat.

I am 18 years old and I got checked from doctor and found that my blood pressure is increased. Upper is 180 and lower is 88. please suggest any method to control it. I don't want to eat any medicine to control blood pressure I only want natural remedy.

You need further check ups to determine the cause of high BP before opting to take or not to take any medicines. Please check your B.P in the next 4 weeks and if it remains elevated, you need to do a Renal Function Test primarily. Treatment may be decided later on. Consume less salt, have some fibre rich diet including fruits and vegetables, drink plenty of water and have some garlic daily either added in foods or in raw form.
