I am 32 years old female. I had been taking thyrox 25 from almost 4 years. Two months earlier I checked my tsh level done and it came out 9.2.then my doctor increased my dosage and prescribed me thyrox 50 everyday. But recently I have noticed that I am losing my weight fast which I don't want. Am I being overdosed? Should I decrease my dosage to thyrox 37.5 or thyronorm 37.5 which is readily available in the market. please help. I am really worried.

Dear lybrate-user, sometimes patients with hypotyroidism (thyroid hormone deficiency) can spontaneously go on to develop hyperthyroidism (thyroid over activity) and lose weight rapidly. The other possibility is that you have developed diabetes I suggest that you take an online video consultation so that we can help you. In the mean time it may be a good idea to stop thyrox and check your blood sugars fasting and pp and inform the results. Stay off thyrox till the problem is sorted out

Hello, Thanks for the query. Madam I have seen the details. Where you have mentioned about current and earlier Levothyroxine dosage and earlier(Raised TSH 9.2 mU/L). However, there is no mention of your weight (current or earlier), as well as TSH value with or after taking the increased dosage. Since these things are not clear there is no way to give any suggestion or make a comment. Usually in hypothyroidism weight increases quite a bit. Once TSH is brought down to desired level (3 to 4 mU/L), then one can reduce weight by making specific effort. Thanks.
