My son had gone for a blood donation camp held by Rotary club. They had measured his BP as 81/133. He is 19. Is the reading normal.

Dear Lybrateuser, - The normal bp at his age should be below 120/80 mm of Hg - to lower his bp he should follow a healthy lifestyle including: - a well balanced diet with more of fruits, vegetables, whole grains instead of refined ones, protein foods such as eggs, non veg, milk & milk products such as yogurt, cottage cheese, buttermilk, soya products, tofu, legumes, pulses, sprouts, a handful of nuts per day - restrict salt intake & salt containing foods like namkeens, pickles, papads, also trans & saturated fat containing foods & bakery items - do regular exercise like walking, jogging, swimming, playing a game, yoga, meditation & deep breathing to keep stress low & reduce body weight which will help in bringing down the BP - should sleep well for at least 7-8 hrs at night, try to keep sleep & awake time fixed - destress by reading, listening to music, exercising or following a hobby - monitor bp once a week preferably on the same day & at the same time.
