Maximum diabetic patients have craving for sweet eatables which are denied, so nothing new with you. But you have restrict yourself because your body is not able to handle sugar ane sweets. Try to develop your liking for other things and enjoy life. You can have almost all foods with few exceptions like sugar jaggery honey sweets sweet fruits like mangoes banana grapes cheekoo dates etc. Try to use whole grains and flour made of them instead of polished or refined like maida. Avoid junk food canned food soft drinks fruit juices etc. Take small frequent meals instead of large ones. Exercise regularly. Be physically active as far as you can. Take medicines regularly and monitor blood sugar frequently.

Mr. Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. For a person with diabetes, sweets are not good, the reason is there is a rapid (almost instant) increase in blood glucose level due to sweets. A person with diabetes is advised to eat foods made with whole grain flour as that will contain good amount of fiber, plus there is a slower conversion in to glucose, hence there is no rapid rise in blood glucose. Plus you will have to increase the intake of green leafy vegetables and salads. Certain fruits like papaya, watermelon, apple, orange, sweet lime, pomegranate etc can be eaten once a day (about 100 g a day). Once a person has diabetes then he or she has to stop eating sweets, foods made from maida, pastries and deep fried foods as well as junk foods. There is no point in saying I like sweets. You have to stop eating those. Blood glucose should be: Fasting < 100 mg, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c% < 6.8. Otherwise there can be serious consequences affecting various vital organs and systems in the body. Thanks.
