Maturity onset diabetes of the young is a kind of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. It is genetic and inherited through the mutation of autosomal genes from parents. Affected individuals can display a variety of symptoms ranging from mild hyperglycemia to severe cases of diabetes. Treatment varies: while management of any kind of diabetes mellitus ultimately aims to maintain sugar balance in blood, treatment of MODY may not require insulin in all cases.
