Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. You have mentioned only fasting glucose values. There is a need to know after food glucose level and hba1c%. Because urine frequency goes up if your blood glucose is above 180 mg /100 ml as glucose starts coming in to urine. So first please check both above mentioned values and inform. Then there is a need to look at your dietary pattern and extent of daily exercise. There is no mention of your weight & height also. So please come back with all the relevant information preferably in the private conversation (where you can up load all the reports) then I will be able to give specific advise and even prescribe if there is any need to upgrade current treatment. Or else please consult your local doctor and get the necessary changes to your treatment. Thanks.

I am 32 years old woman, having diabetes type 2 and hypothyroidism since a few years and I have been taking metformin 500 mg twice a day, and thyroxine tab 100 mcg once in morning, I tested my blood sugar it always comes > 250. I have started walking on the treadmill for 15 minutes twice a day, and also have started taking karela jamun amla wheat grass juice and methi powder, and eating only multigrain flour made chapatis, and oats and other millets, I don't eat rice or maida or any such unhealthy and oily food. But still I am always lethargic and exhausted. As I am an online teacher most of my day goes sitting in my office. I want to switch to ayurveda. What should I do to control both diseases.

Hello, thanks for the query. Madam I have seen the details written. You have given very little important vital information. It is necessary to know what is the current or recent tsh level, then fasting & pp glucose levels as well as hba1c%. Unless these are known there is no way to comment or give any suggestions that be of help to you. I am sure you are aware that hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disorder where your thyroid gland is not producing enough or very little thyroxine, hence you have to take supplement every day for lifetime. The reason is that this hormone is essential for many vital metabolic activities in our body like maintaining regular body temperature, normal heart rate, normal functioning of brain, regulation of menstrual cycles and ovulation, skin texture, hair growth and feeling of well being and preventing anxiety. For that to happen tsh needs to be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l, then one is symptom free. Similarly diabetes t2 is also a hormone deficiency problem where your pancreatic beta cells are not producing enough insulin or there is insulin but body has developed insulin resistance especially in over weight persons. Here again we have to take appropriate medication that helps maintain fbg < 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% < 6.5%. If one does not achieve these levels (of tsh and glucose &hba1c%), then feeling tired, lethargic, weak anxious and many such complaints will be in plenty. Another aspect looking at your height and weight with present weight your bmi is 25.84 kgs /sq meter (normal < 23 kgs/sq meter) which means you have an excess of over 6 kgs. Secondly there is a need to increase the level of daily exercise almost 1 hour a day. Persons with hypothyroidism should avoid soy beans as well as millets as millets have antithyroid properties. You can take whole grain atta (wheat, jowar), increase the intake of pulses, increase the intake of green leafy vegetables salads, that should help in control of blood glucose. Plus present medication needs to be upgraded. Only metformin will not sufficient in reducing the blood glucose. So you need to talk to your physician and upgrade the treatment. If you are interested in online help, then will have to come in a private conversation in Lybrate with following details fasting, pp glucose, hba1c%, lipid profile, dietary details (what is being eaten per meal) and bp readings. All the investigation reports can be posted when you come through private conversation. Then I will be able to give specific guidance and even prescribe necessary drugs. In this communication we are supposed to give only general advise. No drugs can be prescribed. As regards going for ayurvedic treatment for hypothyroidism only treatment is to take life long adequate dosage of levothyroxine. Similarly t2 dm too needs specific modern drugs. If you still wish to shift then the choice is yours. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.

My mother is diabetic patient. doctor advise alamin sn injection. Can it be used?
Hello, thanks for the query. Injection alarmin sn is vitamin b12 injection (methylcobalamine). Usually given if there is b12 deficiency or patient has general weakness, peripheral neuropathy symptoms. It can be taken if prescribed. However, primary need is to have a strict blood glucose control in diabetes. Ideally fbg should be < 100 mg, pp 150 to 170 mg & hba1c% < 6.5%. So please ensure she has good glucose control. Thanks.

In general: a blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dl (7.8 mmol/l) is considered normal. A blood sugar level from 140 to 199 mg/dl (7.8 to 11.0 mmol/l) is considered prediabetes. This is sometimes referred to as impaired glucose tolerance. Let's connect over a call so that we can discuss your concern in details and make a suitable treatment plan for you.
