We are planning a trip to Rajasthan which includes my grand mother too. This question is for her. She is 69 years old. Having blood pressure 164/80 and sugar level after food is 145. Will it be safe for to board a flight from kolkata to delhi? Please I'm worried as I don't want her to get ill. Please suggest me what should I do?

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. At 69 years, with well controlled glucose level and may be slight high BP, there should be no problem at all. 69 is not too old age. I am 70 plus, with diabetes & high BP, travel all over the country and outside fairly regularly. I do not see any reason for worrying. If she is on any medication, those should be carried on the journey and not to miss any. Thanks.

Yes she can travel.

Dear lybrate-user - Its ok with the hypertension as at this age it is hard to be within normal range completely. And BP upto systolic 160 is desirable and the diastolic is absolutely normal. On the other hand Sugar is also within normal range as new guidelines. So not to worry, your mother can travel. But I will suggest her to carry her medicines with her, along with some chocolates, as sometimes due to overexertion, sugar level may drop and cause hypoglycemia .Keep your family physician's mobile number with you always.

Yes , she can travel. Just a little bit of reassurance to make her comfortable is required. She should take her regular medicines as usual.
