Hi. Have thyroid since 6 months. Taking thyronorm 25 mcg. Age 43. Will my thyroid affect menopause? R they two related.

Hello, thanks for the query. Thyroid deficiency (hypothyroidism) is unlikely to affect setting in of menopause. However, in case of uncontrolled hypothyroidism, it does affect the ovarian function and can cause irregular menstruation or either excess or less flow. It also affects ovulation and in turn fertilisation. It is important to maintain tsh around 3 to 4 mu/l to be free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thanks.

These are two separate entities. But you should regularly get your tsh test done to know exact dose of thyropid supplement.
