Hi doctor, my age is 34, male, weight 67. I have used thyronorm 50 mcg for around 2 yrs. I reduced carbohydrates for around 4 months, taken more fiber food as my cholesterol values increased. In recent test, my tsh become 0.03 and cholesterol become normal. So, doctor reduced dosage of thyronorm to 25 mcg, I was not able to follow strict diet. After 7 weeks, my tsh become 6.56, t3 105 and t4 8.2 (t3 and t4 is with in normal range). What should I do now? I am looking for homeopathy or ayurvedic medicine for curing my thyroid problem. Please help me with your valuable advice.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disease. It can only be treated by supplementing adequate dose of levothyroxine. There is no other treatment. The reason tsh has gone up is the dosage reduction by 25 mcg. It should have been only 12.5 mcg. Now you should increase the dose by that quantity, then check tsh after 6 weeks. Ideally it should be maintained around 3 to 4 mu/l, at which all the symptoms are in check. I hope you understand. Diet has no direct effect on tsh or thyroxine level. Only avoiding soy beans and soy containing products is necessary. Diet is advised for one to control weight along with exercise. Thanks.
