Cow Ghee

Cow ghee which is produced from cow milk has medicinal value and offers several health benefits. It primarily contains butterfat, along with water and milk proteins. It is made following a simple procedure of boiling butter and then removing the butterfat. Its proteins (whey and casein) and milk solids are removed this way. Cow ghee is what is left behind.

Nutritional Value of Cow Ghee

Cow ghee has all the necessary nutrients along with antiviral, antioxidant, antifungal and antibacterial properties. Cow ghee contains a high amount of saturated fat which is approximately 7.9 grams per serving. Just as all fats, cow ghee is comparatively high in calories; roughly one tablespoon of serving contains 112 calories. According to American Heart Association’s recommendation, the total fat intake should be between 25-30% of total calories. So for a person with a 2000 caloried diet, the ideal fat consumption should be between 56-78 grams, of which the saturated fat shouldn’t be more than 16 grams. A healthy body can produce its own fat, but it’s beneficial to consume a little extra ghee.

Healing of wounds

Herbal ghee produced from cow ghee itself is called Jatyadi Ghrita and used for treating external wounds. Two teaspoons of neem, mixed with a teaspoon of turmeric powder and half cup of cow ghee can be applied to heal wounds. In leech therapy, ghee is applied over the infected area. It is advised to use cow ghee over bleeding wounds to have some cooling effect and achieve speedy recovery

Post-surgery recovery

Earlier, cow ghee was used as a base to make wicks that were used post-surgery. It is also applied over operated sutures for quick recovery. In ayurveda practice, piles and fistula were treated using a special preparation called Kshara; cow ghee can be used on that area after the procedure to ease the burning sensation and discomfort. Cow ghee is an outstanding injury healing agent, if it is applied locally. In children, while doing ear lobe puncturing, cow ghee is used first to reduce pain & irritability while it also eases piercing.

Reduces bladder pain

To reduce the pain in the bladder region, it is advised to have a teaspoon of cow ghee every morning as it helps in relieving the pain. In chronic fever, garlic clove along with cow ghee is prescribed in the diet. To relieve dryness of taste buds and oral cavity, amla powder and raisins are mixed with cow ghee and kept inside the oral cavity for a few minutes. Haritaki powder is used with cow ghee to ease burning sensation. In the treatment of low blood count, Triphala decoction added with cow ghee and sugar is useful.

Hi lybrate-user Desi ghee contain short chain fatty acids. If you are consuming within an ideal range then it's totally ok as it does not contain any preservative. Secondly it contains fats which are important in supporting your nervous, skin and mental health but remember you should take it it in an ideal range that is 10-15 gm per day. As I can see that you are not overweight so you can certainly take it. You have to avoid it if you have history of cardiovascular disease. You can have curd. Eat fruits and vegetables regularly. Add water melon and grapes.

*Take daal rice more. Use cow ghee n milk. Avoid over eating *start massage with til- sesame oil in morning, after that, do exercise whatever you want then bath *Take Sun bath *focus in yourself *avoid stress anger fear *take ajvayan 1 tsp after meal. *Start chyavanprash in morning. These are also helps in height increase. After 20, process of increasing height becomes slow. However healthy diets will help you. Do exercise & yoga. Esp. Tadashana, suryanamaskar, chakrasahana. गाय के घी के धार्मिक महत्व से तो परिचित ही हैं. गाय के घी का उल्लेख आयुर्वेद में भी मिलता है. इसमें इसे अमृत के समान बताया गया है. गाय के घी का इस्तेमाल हम प्राचीन काल से ही करते चले आ रहे हैं. गाय के घी के इस्तेमाल के भी कई तरीके मौजूद हैं. इसमें कई तरह के पोषक तत्व पाए जाते हैं. आयुर्वेद के अनुसार घी, पित्त और वात को शांत करने का काम करता है. इसलिए पित्त और वात के असंतुलन से उत्पन्न होने वाले विकारों को दूर करने में घी काफी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है.

1. गठिया में
गठिया,, जोड़ों के दर्द और सूजन में भी घी के इस्तेमाल से लाभ प्राप्त किया जा सकता है. इसके लिए घी का आतंरिक और बाह्य दोनों रूपों में इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है.
2. मन-मस्तिष्क की शांति में

There are herbal preparations, which adsorb pollutants and may also help detoxify the effects." One must wash the skin, hair with neem leaves boiled in the water. It will clear the pollutants stuck to skin and mucosal membrane. If possible, also try to eat three to four leaves at least twice a week. It helps to purify blood and lymphatic tissue.

  • Tulsi (basil) should be planted at every house to absorb the pollution. In addition, one should drink 10-15 ml of tulsi juice as it helps clear pollutants from the respiratory tract
  • Turmeric powder half teaspoon with 1 tablespoon of ghee or honey, should be taken empty stomach in the morning
  • One can put 2 drops of cow ghee in each nostril every day in the morning and at bed time to stay clear from pollutants., "It is important to have two to three teaspoon of homemade ghee daily. It is very much useful to chelate the toxic effects of metals like lead and mercury and does not allow them to accumulate in bones, kidneys and liver.
  • Pippali is one of the super herbs for purifying lungs that enable easy breathing. It's very effective against lung infections due to its rejuvenative properties. A simple way to consume this is ¼ teaspoon Ginger, ¼ teaspoon turmeric and 1/8 teaspoon Pippali powder mixed in 1 tbsp honey and washed down with warm water. This should however be taken for maximum of seven days and not used in infants.
  • Pollution causes imbalance in tridosha and Triphala helps restore the same, thus, bolstering immunity. One tablespoon of Triphala with 1 teaspoon of honey at night is the recommended dosage
  • Drink pomegranate juice as it is known to purify blood and is also a brilliant cardio protective fruit.
  • Dr Piyush Juneja, suggests a daily full-body warm oil massage aka Abhyangam, therefore, acts as a powerful recharger and rejuvenator of mind and body.
  • Luke Coutinho, holistic healing expert recommends taking steam with 5-10 drops of eucalyptus oil or a drop of peppermint oil. This should be done for five minutes twice a day.
  • Dhoop (smoke created in earthen bowl) of Guggulu and Aguru, which are Ayurvedic herbs can be used to prevent dampness in the house, which is a leading cause of allergic cold and breathlessness
  • Eat home cooked, warm food instead of eating out at restaurants. Incorporate herbs like turmeric, cayenne pepper, carom seeds, ginger etc in food. Add some pepper, and basil leaves to your regular cup of chai.

1. Start using moisturising or creamy soaps or body wash. Avoid frequent bathing.
2. Moisturise your skin soon after dabbing off the water after a shower or bath.
3. Daily apply any gentle oily or less oily cream or olive oil or pure cow ghee (depending upon what suits you) as first thing after washing your face in the morning.
4. You can choose to scrub your facial skin gently using ready srubs like apricot scrubs or a quick home made one. Homemade scrub- mix 1 tpsb gram floor with 1 spoon curd, turmeric and 2 drops of lemon juice. Scrub gently on face and leave it to half dry then rinse with plain water. Perform daily to avoid deposition of dead skin cells that dry winds cause in winter.

Lower back pain is among one of those ailments that brings life to standstill. Nowadays most common reason for absence at job or college is Back pain. It gives you nothing bur restless and depressed day and sleepless night. It ruins your life's small moments of joy. 

What is low backache? 

It is the pain that felt in lower back which usually originates from joints, bones, muscles, nerves or other structures in spine. 

What is spine? 

Vertebral column or backbone or spine consists of 33 bones; called as vertebrae. Lower 9 are fused in adults. 

  1. Cervical spine in neck region: 7 vertebrae (C1-C7)
  2. Thoracic Spine in upper back: 12 vertebrae (T1-T12)
  3. Lumbar spine in lower back: 5 vertebra (L1-L5)
  4. Sacrum in Lower back Fused: 5 vertebrae (S1-S5)
  5. Coccyx (tailbone) fused: 3-5 vertebrae. 

Significance of Vertebral column:

  1. The major function of vertebral column is protection of spinal cord. 
  2. It provides stiffening for the body and attachments for muscles. 
  3. It transmits body weight while walking and standing. 

What is pain? 

It is a message originates from the location of injury; travels through nervous system and received by brain where it is interpreted as PAIN. 

Acute Backache

  1. It is a sudden low back pain for abortion time. 
  2. It can be because of trauma, trigger or a disorder such as Arthritis.
  3. It limits movements, flexibility and even results into inability to stand or sit straight.
  4. Acute pain can become more serious if left untreated. 

Chronic Backache

When back pain persists for more than 3 months; it is considered as Chronic. 

Causes:

  • Muscle strain or ligaments strain

Improper posture, repeated heavy lifting strain ligaments and muscles if back which result into muscular spasm and severe backache. There are 3 specific movements that are responsible for back injuries. Bending, lifting and twisting. The danger lies in performing any two or more if them simultaneously. 

  • Bulging or Ruptured intervertebral disc
  • Spondylosis: Backpain caused by age related wear and tear of spinal discs. 
  • Spondylitis: It is inflammatory Arthritis affecting the spinal bones. 
  • Spondylolisthesis: It is forward displacement of vertebra over another. 
  • Skeletal irregularities: If spinal curve is abnormal backpain can occur. 
  • Osteoporosis: If vertebrae become porous and brittle, it can cause compression fractures. 
  • Coccydynia: Pain at tailbone is called as Coccydynia. 

Pregnancy: Almost all women experience low back pain during Pregnancy. Maternal weight gain, increased lordosis (Curvature of spine), Stretching of ligaments, increased calcium demand can cause backpain in Pregnancy.

Diagnostic tools:

  • History of illness 
  • History of injury, trauma, accident etc.

  • Nerve studies (Electromygraphy) 

Treatment:

  • Medicines such as NSAID (Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs) and Muscle relaxants

  • Spinal Traction:
  • It is non surgical way of decompression therapy that relieves pressure in spine. It can be performed by physiotherapist or by machines. 
  • It is useful in backache due to slipped disc, herniated discs, Sciatica, degenerative disc diseases, pinched nerve etc. 
  • A physician can determine the need of traction and weight for traction based on your medical history. 

Backache - Ayurvedic Aspects 

According to Ayurveda Backache (Kati shool, Kati graha, Trik graha, Prushtha Shool) is one of the common disease occurring because of vitiated vata dosha, so it is considered as "Vata- Vyadhi." 

Line of treatment of Vata - Vyadhi

Abhyanga (Massage): Sesame oil, Mahanarayan Oil, Prasarini oil can be used for Massage. 

Swedan (Fomentation): Moist steam of herbs like Dashmool , Nirgundi etc. 

Katibasti: Kati basti is pouring of lukewarm medicated oil and keeping it for sometime on the back region surrouded by ring made by black gram or whole wheat flour. 

Basti: Basti is one of the most important treatments if vitiated vata. Basti can be performed in various forms according to stage of disease and constitution of patient. 

Medicated oil and medicated decoction enema on alternate days for 8 days/15 days or 30 days.

Matrabasti: 60 ml medicated oil enema. 

Panchatikta ksheer basti: It is most useful in management of degenerative bone disease, in which herbs like Adulsa, Guduchi, Nimb, Kantakari and Patol are cooked in cow milk. Sometimes cow ghee can also be mixed. 

Medicines: Gokshuradi guggul, Trayodashang guggul, Yograj guggul can be used under proper guidance. 

Ashwagandha, Musta , Vidang, Ajmoda , Chopchini, Rasna, Devdaru, Punarnava, Shatavari, Shankhabhasma are some useful medicines for backache.

  • Sit in proper posture, adjust your work desk accordingly, walk straight. 
  • Do not slouch. 
  • Avoid high heels shoes. 
  • Wear lumbar belt under proper guidance. 
  • Avoid stress. Lose weight if you are overweight.

Shuvarnprashan - A powerful Child Immunization Procedure

Research Findings

In a pharmaco-clinical study conducted on neonates Madhu-Ghrita-Swarna-Vacha Combination shows a significant effect on humoral antibody formation and it acted on immunological system, which was evident by triggering the response of immunological system by a rise in the total proteins and serum IgG levels.

Things to note

  1. Shuvarnprashan can be given to your child from childbirth till the age of 12 years.
  2. Ideally, it should be given early in the morning on an empty stomach. Feed your child 30 minutes after giving Shuvarnprashan.
  3. The specific benefits of Swarnaprashana according to the duration of administration have been mentioned such as:
    • If administered for 1 month, the baby will become Parama Medhavi (highly intelligent) and Vyadhibhir Na Cha Drusyate (will not be affected by any disease)
    • If administered for 6 months, the baby will become Srutadhara (will be able to remember the things, which are just heard).
    • You can follow a dosage for a period of 30 days. You may extend this till 180 days. Afterwards follow up on every pushyanaxatra(पुष्यनक्षत्र).
    • Your child should face the east side when taking this medicine. Shuvarnprashan is also known by other names such as Swarna amruta prashana, Swarna bindu prashana, Suvarna prashan, Swarna prashana and Swarnaprashan.

However, in conditions such as acute fever, swarnprashan can increase your body temperature. It is contraindicative in condition such as diarrhea, vomiting. Hence, it is important to consult an experienced and well-known Ayurveda practitioner before starting this Ayurveda process
