I am a 21 year old woman, who has been overweight due to bad eating habits. I tried keto diet for 20 days, lost 7 kgs but came back to normal eating but healthy which includes carbs in the form of chapati and rice but in proportion. Within one month of leaving the diet, I gained back half of the weight I lost. Got my thyroid test done and T4 was within range but Tsh was 5.2, idk whether I suddenly got thyroid because of this diet and is it a serious issue due to my tsh being 5.2 wich is high? Do I wait for 3 months to get myself tested again or should I start with pills already?

Did you test your TSH prior to starting the keto diet. A keto diet, we prescribe to reduce fat percentage and bring about weight loss and this diet would definitely not lead to hypothyroidism. On the contrary you can continue the diet and at the same time consult an endocrinologist to stabilize your thyroid condition.

Your TSH is not very high, slightly borderline high. In keto diet, one should not make wrong food choices, as it allows high fat food. If you take processed fat foods or high processed non-veg foods it may impact hormones. When you are off- keto stay away from processed foods, have very low rice and wheat based foods and have high natural foods including good carbs in the form of fruits, starchy veggies and legumes.
