I am having BP since 2008 and taking medicine on regular basis Stemilo 25. Since last 9 year I was regularly monitoring it and its always in range last night it was 140/110 it was suddenly shoot up due to some family stress taken complete rest and in the morning now it is 118/82. Sir do I need to change medicine and any suggestion for keeping it under control I am regular moderate alcoholic drinker too.

Dear lybrate-user The high stress, loss of sleep, lack of exercise can increase the blood pressure momentarily. The high blood pressure i.e. The pressure of the blood that flowing in your vessels is sometimes getting high if there will be any triggers factor such as high stress, loss of sleep, lack of exercise and it will come to normal level if those triggers factor stop. So it is not necessary to increase the blood pressure medicines rather you can practice other healthy approach like regular exercise, taking of healthy foods, living with a healthy life style, practice of yoga and pranayam (breathing exercise) daily, reducing of salt level, and most important do not take stress or give stress to your brain. In any difficult situation rather without being stress finding the solution for the things that will help you to perventing you to become sytress. Thank you.

1) A BP of 140/110 is very high so you need to change medication, it will be better to consult a cardiologist for detailed evaluation which should include, ecg, echo, lipid profile, renal function test and TMT and change of your treatment. 2) Sir you need to quit drinking or at least reduce it to the recommended safe levels because drinking leads to increase in cholesterol which leads to hardening of blood arteries due to cholesterol deposition and hence rise in BP. 3) Also daily exercise of 40 mins is essential for good BP control. 4) Diet change to a DASH diet which is essentially increase of fruits, vegetables, sprouts and curd in diet and reduction of salt and high sugar food. Kindly consult a dietitian for detailed diet consult.
