What happens if someone has anti tpo bodies. My report showed tsh level as 15.698 six months later the reading is showing 24.228. I was not taking any allopathy medicines was taking only patanjali thyrogrit. I consulted one doctor he directly asked me to take thyronorm 50 and repeat test after 3 months. Is it wise, do I need to get antibody test too?

Hello, thanks for the query. I have gone through the details mentioned. Madam, increased number of anti tpo antibodies means there is an autoimmune process on in the body. This leads to lymphocyte infiltration in thyroid follicles, causing a slight increase in thyroid gland size, plus affecting the secretory capacity leading to lack of t4 7 t3 hormones, precipitating hypothyroidism. The autoimmune condition is called as hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht). In this condition some times tsh may be fairly low but still hypothyroidism is seen. In your case presence of high (above normal) tsh is a clear indication of presence of hypothyroidism. This needs appropriate dosage of levothyroxine and that too for lifetime. The medications mentioned by you do not control the disease process. If you have any questions please do come back. Thanks.
