Dear lybrate-user, it looks like you had only subclinical hypothyroidism in pregnancy. Usually this is something that becomes normal after delivery. I suggest that you stop thyroxine tablet and recheck free t4, tsh and tpo antibodies 2 months after stopping the tablet. If all values are normal you do not need to take thyroid medication lifelong

You can reduce it to 12.5 daily for 6 weeks then repeat tsh test.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Usually post delivery in many women thyroid function does return to normal after about 4 to 6 weeks time. During that period if TSH is with in normal limits (0.5 to 5.0 mU/L) without Levothyroxine, then continuation of medication is not required. However, if TSH goes up (without medication, to > 10 mU/L) then treatment needs to be started again. In your case TSH 2.6 mU/L after 6 weeks was with medication or not is not clear. If Levothyroxine is on and then TSH is 3.78 mU/L then that needs to be continued. There is no reason to worry about breast feeding. Another important aspect is that baby's TSH levels should have been checked after a few weeks of birth. I hope that has been done. Thanks.
