Lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Hypothyroidism is a thyroxine hormone deficiency disease. Where your thyroid gland is not producing adequate or almost nil hormone. This hormone is needed every day for a number of vital functions in the body. So only way to treat is to supplement the hormone from outside. There is no other treatment. Doing yogic asanas will help in maintaining good health, but there is no role on production of thyroxine. One has to continue treatment for lifetime, plus it is essential to maintain TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L, to remain free from the symptoms. There is no special diet. One has to avoid soy beans, soy containing foods, increase the intake of green leafy vegetables, fruits and always use whole grain flour for roti and chapati. Avoid bakery items, pastries, junk foods, foods made from maida and colas. Total caloric intake has to be based on 51 kg (ideal body weight) and extent of daily exercise. Any exercise is good. Brisk walking is easy and very good. Thanks.
