I am male age 58 years, height 6 ft 1 inch, my weight used to be 110 but due to some efforts it is now 105 kg, my waist was 40 but now is 36-38 inches, I have been careless with my diet all my life but recently have been taking care about when to eat and what to eat. I want to further trim my weight & waistline. My blood sugar is mostly above or on borderline i.e. Between 120-130 fasting, can I follow 8-16 rule i.e. To eat during 8 hours and fast for 16 hours, I have already started taking early dinner around 7 pm & fast for 16 hours between dinner and breakfast, this means I take breakfast around 11 am. I do feel little hungry as I wake up but I manage perfectly well due to taking 2-3 cups of green tea, till I take breakfast by 11 am. Pls confirm if this way I can burn some fat and reduce my weight & waist. I am tall and would like to look lean if possible. I always love walking but due to being busy can walk over 10,000 steps per day 3-4 times per day only. Kindly guide if its risky for a type II diabetic person not to eat for 16 hours per day between 7 pm to around 11 am?

Hello lybrate-user, As per your height desired weight should be around 82-85 kg. 16 hours gap can prove to be lethal for diabetics as it may trigger the hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Small frequent meals with 2-3 hours gap will help you in maintaining blood glucose level and effective weight loss. Balanced diet having controlled portion can controlled your sugar levels without medication even. Many pre- diabetic patients of mine have reversed their condition with good control on diet and mild exercise. You can consult me
