Sir I'm 34 years male. My recent Thyroid test shows TSH 7.55, T3-100, T4-9.1. Plus I have hair loss issue, no other major health issues like fatigue etc. Do I need to start thyroxine tablets now? I'm a bit worried as I've heard that this medicine need to be taken life long.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. TSH 7.55 mU/L, is considered as sub-clinical hypothyroidism. Usually it is not requiring any treatment. However, if a person has any troublesome symptoms related to hypothyroidism, then treatment is given. As regards taking the tablet for life time, if a person develops hypothyroidism, which means deficiency of the essential hormone thyroxine, which is needed for day to day functioning of almost all the metabolic functions of the body, so it has to be supplemented for the life. There is no option. Thanks.
