Dialysis Fluid for Sodium and Potassium Test

Dialysis Fluid for Sodium and Potassium Test

Dialysis Fluid for Sodium and Potassium test is performed on a sample of dialysis fluid to measure level of Sodium and Potassium in dialysis fluid. It is performed to confirm Kidney Disorder and also during treatment and after treatment of Kidney Disorder.

No special preparation is needed for Dialysis Fluid for Sodium and Potassium. There is no need to disturb your diet routine. Consumption of potassium and sodium should be low. Inform your doctor if you are on any medications or have any underlying medical conditions or allergies before undergoing Dialysis Fluid for Sodium and Potassium. Follow the instructions given by your doctor.

Dialysis prevents the waste products in the blood from reaching hazardous levels. When your kidneys can't perform these functions due to disease or injury, dialysis can help keep the body running as normally as possible. Without dialysis, salts and other waste products will accumulate in the blood and poison the body. However, dialysis isn’t a cure for kidney disease or other problems affecting the kidneys.

To do the test, plan to be there for 4 hours or more. First, you'll drain out last night's PD fluid. Then, you'll lie down and fill with two liters of 2.5% dextrose fluid at 200 ml/min for 10 minutes. Every two minutes, you'll roll from side to side to be sure the fluid is well mixed in your abdomen. As soon as all of the fluid is in, you'll drain out 200 ml, and a 10 ml sample will be taken out. The rest will be put back into your belly. Once this step is done, you'll walk or move around for 2 hours while the fluid dwells. Then, a second sample of drain fluid will be taken, and a blood sample will be drawn. After 2 more hours of dwell time, you'll sit or stand to drain completely. This usually takes 20 minutes. The drain volume will be checked and another sample of the drain fluid will be taken. Each of the drain fluid samples and your blood will be tested to see how much glucose and creatinine (a waste removed by dialysis) are present.

If it is increasing. You need to be on thrice/weekly maintenance dialysis. If you plan to get hemodialysis ,get a-v fistula. If you are willing for transplantation then it has better 10 year survival than dialysis. I would advise you to go for transplant if you can afford it.(around 3-6 lakh depending on centre, once you have a matched donor) regularly monitor potassium in mean time avoid pain killers and taking random injections on limb hope it helps.

My father is 61 Years old and have a kidney problem, with a creatinine level of 7.5, potassium 7 and Urea 175. kidney size is Left 7.2 & 4.4 cm & Right 8.1 & 4.3 cm. I am pursuing allopathy for last two years and I have recently started ayurveda simultaneously. Whats the level of Creatinine for Dialysis and at what level of creatinine that I have forgot the dialysis. Can we use K'bind sachets with sorbiline for go down the potassium level or it can not be harmful or side effects for creatinine / kidney level increased. What is the status of functioning the kidney right now.

First of all I suggest you to stop the Ayurveda medicines since, it consists traces of heavy metals that could cause kidney damage. Dialysis is dependant on the symptoms exhibited by the patient. If there is fluid acc umulation with high BP, dialysis needs to be done. This way excess potassium can also be leeched out. Then slowly the frequency of dialysis can be brought down and sometimes stopped with conservative treatment

Yes its a grave condition chronic kidney disease whether he will need dialysis or not that will depend on his symptoms lyk severe vomitting, fever, swelling of legs n body, decreased urine output, uremia etc & also on the blood reports. For diet he should restrict proteins and salt also potassium containing fruits. Daily water intake should be = 24hrs urine output+500ml. Consult me ptivately with his symptoms reports n full medical history so that I can review n prescribe a series of medicines that are essential for ckd. Thanks.

Diet In CKD ( Non Dialysis patients)

Diet In CKD ( Non Dialysis patients)

Diet in ckd in non dialysis patients:

  1. We suggest the following dietary guidelines for most patients with egfr 60 ml/min/1.73 who are not on dialysis:
  2. A daily protein intake of 0.8 g/kg. We do not recommend very-low-protein intake (0.6 g/kg/day).
  3. A diet rich in vegetables.

The sodium intake varies depending on individual patient clinical features. Among individuals who are hypertensive, volume overloaded, or proteinuric, we suggest a sodium intake of 2 g/day (ie, 5 g/day of salt [nacl]).
For patients who are not hypertensive, volume overloaded, or proteinuric, sodium restriction to 2.3 g/day (5.75 g/day of salt [nacl]) may be of benefit. There are no convincing studies of the general population that have proven that lowering sodium intake to less than 2.3 g per day lowers cardiovascular outcomes or all-cause mortality. The institute of medicine has concluded that there is insufficient evidence to recommend a different sodium intake for ckd patients as compared with the general us population [2].

  1. The potassium intake should be guided by serum potassium levels. If the potassium concentration is normal, we do not restrict dietary potassium. If the potassium concentration is high, dietary potassium intake should be restricted.
  2. Some clinicians target a total calcium intake (both dietary and medication sources) ≤1500 mg/day, whereas others prefer a more stringent goal of ≤1000 mg/day.
  3. Maximum phosphorus intake of 0.8 to 1 g/day, even if the serum phosphorus concentration is normal; this is because some studies suggest that dietary phosphorus intake may alter circulating fibroblast growth factor (fgf)-23 concentration. The dietary phosphorus should be derived from sources of high biologic value, such as meats and eggs.
  4. Maximum caloric intake of 30 to 35 kcal/kg/day.
  5. Maximum fat intake - 30 percent of daily energy intake, with saturated fat limited to 10 percent energy.
  6. Daily dietary fiber intake for 25 to 38 g/day.

Haemodialysis - 4 Things a Person Must Follow if Your Undergoing it

Haemodialysis - 4 Things a Person Must Follow if Your Undergoing it

Kidney is the most vital organ in the body as it eliminates the waste material from our blood. When kidneys fails to carry out its work effectively the waste materials gets accumulated in the blood and end up with many serious disease condition that affects the other vital structures in our body. The function of the kidney is carried out artificially by an external device called dialyser to purify the blood and remove the waste products from it. This procedure is called as dialysis. There are two types of dialysis they are haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. In Haemodialysis, the waste products are removed from the blood and there by the fluid and electrolyte balance is maintained.

Things a person should follow if they are undergoing haemodialysis

  1. Love your heart: Patients undergoing dialysis are at more risk of getting cardiac problems. So it is best advised to follow few of the following measures to take care of their heart
    • Keep your blood pressure and cholesterol levels under control
    • Quit smoking
    • Reduce stress
    • Have healthy low fat and heart friendly diet
    • Get regular physical activity but avoid excessive strainers activity that may require extra effort from your heart
    • Maintain a healthy weight
  2. Diet: Dialysis not only removes the waste matters from your blood but sometimes also the essential electrolytes and nutrients. Protein, potassium sodium and phosphorus are the major things that are to be noted.
    • Encourage the patient to take high quality protein rich foods like meat, fish, milk, egg and chicken which is essential to improve your muscle strength and immunity.
    • Have a check of your sodium level and take sodium rich foods accordingly, as excess sodium may increase the fluid intake.
  3. Limit your fluid intake: Use ice cubes instead of water or use small cups of water. Make sure you measure every sip of water you take.
  4. Don't Overeat: Slow down while eating and stop eating when you feel full. don’t over load your stomach. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a nephrologist.

Chronic Kidney Disease

Chronic Kidney Disease

The kidney disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality now a days. There are serveral reasons for getting into the renal failure but one of the most important causes are chronic blood pressure and chronic uncontrolled diabetes. Synthetic drugs for uric acid and other diseases are also one of the reasons in some cases and in some cases the nephrotic syndrome, nephritis and auto-immune diseases are the cause.

No matter whatever is the cause, once the creatinine level goes beyond the limits, it becomes very difficult to bring it back in the range. There are however certain natural herbs and ayurvedic remedies which have shown excellent results in lowering down the creatinine levels without causing elevation in the potassium levels or affecting the sugar levels. The herbs used together helps to improve the overall health and improve kidney functin.

Chronic Kidney Disease Due To Diabetes And How To Avoid Dialysis?

Although people with type 2 diabetes are at greater risk of kidney problems, but still the stage of arriving in kidney failure can be prevented by taking care of sugar levels. If the stage has already come and the patient is in chronic kidney disease phase, then there are certain ayurvedic herbs which should be used along with whatever treatments are going on. It can be even dialysis also.

Controlling diabetes by lowering blood sugar, dieting, exercising, is very important to keep sugar levels in control. Even blood pressure levels should be kept in control in natural ways rather than consuming pills. Pranayam (Breathing exercises) are the best to keep things in control. Please check video by Dr. Vikram Chauhan on breathing exercies and how to do them and how to avoid dialysis by regularly doing Pranayam.

Symptoms And Signs Of Kidney Failure

There are specific interventions, such as limiting salt in the diet that can help prevent the progression of kidney disease in people who have the early signs.

Protein in Urine - In uncontrolled chronic diabetes, the most important sign is the leakage of large amount of proteins in the urine.Very large amounts of protein in their urine -a marker of kidney disease, which is evidence of moderately impaired kidney function or difficult-to-control hypertension.

One particular patient, a man in his mid-50s, had all of the above. At 30 ml/min, his glomerular filtration rate, or GFR-a measure of kidney function-suggested he already had moderate to severe damage. He had a large amount of protein in his urine, poorly controlled hypertension, and poorly controlled blood sugar. After using Ayurvedic remedies for about 1 month, things improved dramatically. Similarly there are many other success stories where patients were on regular twice weekly dialysis and their frequency of dialysis reduced to once in fortnight. We consider this also a big achievement. In many cases, the dialysis was avoided all together, after about 6 months to 1 year of treatment.

THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO PREVENT KIDNEY FAILURE:

If tests reveal a problem, your doctor will recommend ways to slow the decline in kidney function and prevent kidney failure, which include the following:-

  • Controlling your blood sugar
  • Controlling your blood pressure
  • Taking blood pressure medicines

But according to ayurveda, the most important thing is to change your diet from acidic to alkaline. Improve your breathing pattern. Start doing breathing exercises as suggested in the link above.

How To Avoid Dialysis?

The herbal products like Mutrakrichantak Churna contain herbs like Punarnava ( Boerrhavia diffusa) and others which have remarkable properties to reverse the kidney failure. "Puna" means again and "Nava" means New. So this herb helps to revive the kidneys. This is one of the best herbal remedy for kidney failure and an excellent alternative to avoid dialysis.

Herbal Remedy For Kidney Failure

The herbs lke Punarnava, Varuna, Tribulus, Shigru, Apamarg etc. are described in ancient Ayurveda texts - 5000 B.C old system of healing practised in India. These herbs are excellent to revive kidney failure and lower down swelling, reduce volume of accumulated fluid and thereby increasing the chances of revival of kidneys.
