Hii I am diagnosed with hypothyroidism problem for 1 year. So that by the doctors prescription I am in taking thyrox 25 mg tablet daily. So that my tsh level is normal. Recently I have did tsh test their is increase of 24. What is the reason behind the increase of thyroid even I am using tablet. My antibodies test is 390 and I have rheumatoid arthritis. What is the reason behind this. Please tell me the information regarding to it.

Hello, Thanks for the query. When one is on adequate dosage of Levothyroxine, TSH is well controlled and remains around 3 to 4 mU/L, at which all the symptoms of the disease are in check. TSH 24 mU/L shows that dosage being taken is not enough. It needs to be increased to either 37.5 mcg or 50 mcg per day. Then TSH has to be tested again to see if desired level is achieved or not. High antibodies means you have an autoimmune problem called as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Treatment for that also is same. Your Rheumatoid arthritis is part of that autoimmune process. Thanks.
