Brandy

Brandy is an alcoholic beverage whose name comes from a Dutch word “brandewijn”, meaning ‘burnt wine’. The name is apt as most brandies are made by applying heat, originally from open flames, to wine. The heat drives out and concentrates the alcohol naturally present in the wine. Brandy is made by further distilling wine to increase the alcoholic content. Brandy contains around 30-60% alcohol by volume. Brandy is derived from wine, but it is aged in oak barrels, which increases the alcohol content and also gives it the unique color. While brandies are usually made from wine or other fermented fruit juices, it can be distilled from any liquid that contains sugar.

Nutritional Value of Brandy

Alcohol-containing beverages such are brandy have a particularly high calorie content. One single shot of brandy contains 100 calories. Drinks that mix brandy with other beverages contain an even greater number of calories, because of the added sugar. Similarly, fruit flavored brandy also has an additional calorie count because of the addition of sugar.

Health Benefits of Brandy

Mentioned below are the best health benefits of Brandy
Health Benefits of Brandy

Relieves respiratory issues

Brandy has excellent anti-inflammatory properties. This makes brandy very effective in relieving respiratory issues such as sore throats and coughs. The strong alcoholic content in brandy can help eliminate bacteria and loosen up phlegm and mucus, thereby acting as an expectorant.

Boosts immune system

For over thousands of years, brandy has been used as a traditional solution for the treatment of issues such as colds, coughs and the flu. Brandy has natural warming properties, which helps induce healthy sleep. Additionally, the antibacterial nature of alcohol makes it very useful in helping strengthen the functioning of the immune system. It can eliminate pathogens that may be in your system and can boost your immune system with the help of its antioxidants.

Improves heart health

Similar to other types of alcohol, brandy has a lot of positive effects on the heart. When drunk in moderation, research has shown that it contains a wide range of beneficial antioxidants, much like the wine from which it is derived. Brandy’s antioxidant properties can help bring down the levels of accumulated bad cholesterol in the body, thus balancing out cholesterol levels and preventing plaque build up. Furthermore, the polyphenolic compounds in it significantly reduce inflammation in the cardiovascular system, which eases tension in the blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.

Helps in the treatment of cancer

There are certain cancers that are exacerbated by excess consumption of alcohol, but studies over the years have shown that brandy can help in the prevention or treatment of certain cancers. One of the essential components of brandy is ellagic acid, which is a powerful organic compound that can prevent the development and metastasis of cancerous cells. The most obvious effects of brandy in treating cancer can be seen in case of ovarian or bladder cancer.

Has anti-aging properties

Brandy has excellent antioxidant properties some of which are attributed to the presence of copper in some of the aging barrels. These antioxidants, which are organic compounds can help eliminate free radicals in the body as well as neutralize their effects. Free radicals are the dangerous byproducts of cellular metabolism that can cause our body’s healthy cells to mutate or undergo cell death. Antioxidants can help prevent this type of cellular death in the skin, hair, internal organs, as well as the brain. Therefore, brandy has been proven to eliminate aging and aging related symptoms such as poor vision, wrinkles on the skin, cognitive issues, and other chronic conditions.

Helps in weight management

Unlike alcoholic drinks like beer which have a high carbohydrate content, brandy has no carbs. As a result, there is no conversion of carbohydrate into fat in the body, thus making sure that brandy does not lead to storage of fat. However, just because brandy does not contain any carbohydrates does not mean you should drink it in excess. As with any kind of liquor, moderation should always be exercised.

Cardiovascular benefits

Due to its high polyphenol content, brandy offers a plethora of cardiovascular benefits. Alcoholic drinks that contain polyphenols suppress the activity of a gene, called NF-kappaB, that plays a role in inflammation. Because excessive inflammation and overactivation of NF-kappaB contribute to heart disease, brandy's negative effect on NF-kappaB might benefit your cardiovascular health.

Helps in inducing sleep

Similar to any other alcoholic drink, brandy has calming and tranquilizing properties, which can help induce sleep. As a result, brandy is often recommended, and is very popular as an after-dinner drink.

Uses of Brandy

Brandy is a type of alcohol that can be used for a variety of purposes, including medicinal purposes. Brandy is widely renowned for its ability to slow the signs of aging and control weight issues, as well as treat respiratory issues. Drinking brandy in moderation has been proven to help with sleep issues and improve sleep patterns. Brandy can also boost heart health and keep the heart functioning well. Brandy has certain compounds and acids which can prevent the development and spread of cancerous cells.

Side-Effects & Allergies of Brandy

When consumed in moderation, the only side effects of brandy include those equal to that of a general alcohol-induced hangover. But when consumed in greater quantities, brandy has side effects which include changes in the central nervous system, as well as a rapid drop in blood sugar, known as hypoglycemia. Brandy can also adversely affect normal functioning of the liver and kidneys, as well as smooth functioning of the heart.

Cultivation of Brandy

Long before the 16th century, wine was a popular product for trading in European region. In the early 16th century, a Dutchman trader invented the way to ship more wine in the limited cargo space by removing water from the wine. Then he could add the water back to the concentrated wine at the destination port in Holland. They called it 'bradwijn', which later became 'brandy'. Today, brandy is brewed all over the world, in areas such as the US, France, Germany, Greece, Australia, Spain and Italy.

Since brandy is not a medicine, it cannot be advised as a good solution for diabetes. It is more of a personal choice . So you can take it if you wish to, but the general rule is to maintain discipline ( also regarding overall lifestyle ) in daily routine. A healthy lifestyle with everyday session of Yoga can be the best option to bounce back to normal health and keep diabetes in good control and avoid all the complications in future.

Bach Flower Remedies - How They Can Help?

We all realize that a person's well being is a mix of physical and emotional health. It is never possible that a person suffering from major anxiety, depression, attention disorder, sleep disorders, stress, or mental trauma can have a perfectly normal physical health.  The Bach Flower remedies are one of the well-proven methods of healing one's emotional imbalances, helping mankind achieve happiness and joy.
Dr. Edward Bach discovered the benefits that flowering trees and plants can have on healing one's emotional problems.  These became extremely popular in the 1930s and help a person to positively deal with negative emotions and behavior patterns. The overall result is an improved well-being, both emotionally and physically, leading to overall happiness.

How it works: Dr. Bach discovered 38 flowers, each of them contributing in some way to the emotional well-being of a person. Each flower improves emotional negativity in some way. These 38 include some of the common ones like pine, mustard, oak, and walnut to rare ones like larch, rock rose, etc. Each flower is associated with an emotion. For instance, pine is associated with guilt, mustard with deep gloom for no reason, elm with overwhelmed feeling due to loaded responsibilities, etc.

Bach flower remedies, or BFRs as they are called, are solutions containing brandy and water.  Dr. Bach believed that dew found on the flower petals had preserved the healing properties of the plant and can be used to heal.  While the water contains extreme dilutions of this dew material, the brandy acts as a preservative.

There is a Bach questionnaire that needs to be answered.  This will help identify the right flower remedies needed for a particular person.  In a vast majority of cases, it would be a combination of 6 to 7 remedies that are combined to make a personalized combination.  Over a period of time, the negative emotions will be replaced with positive ones.  The safety and popularity of this remedy is so wide that children, elderly people, pregnant women, and even pets and plants have benefited from this.

How do you make your customized therapy?  Take an empty 30 mL bottle that has a dropper in the lid, which you can get at the local pharmacy store. To this, add two drops of each selected remedy. Alternately, you could also use 4 drops of the formula that is available pre-mixed, which works in most cases.  To this bottle with drops of the flower remedies, add plain, mineral water.  Take 4 drops of this at least 4 times every day.

This is an extremely popular and well-proven method of healing, with the Bach foundation continuing to propagate the teachings and remedy of Dr. Bach. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Winter Penis Care: Sex Tips for Cold Weather

Winter Penis Care: Sex Tips for Cold Weather

The winter is surely on its way, and many parts of the world are preparing for some cold weather ahead. And what does that mean for a guy's penis? Well, it depends on a lot of factors - but most men don't let a little cold weather keep them from practicing good penis care and making sure their favorite body part stays healthy and active, even if the weather outside gets frightful.

Of course, often a partner may not be moved to engage in sex when it's cold just to satisfy a dude's penis care requirements. If that is the case, here are some ideas for overcoming a mate's cold-related reluctance.

- Sex is hot. We don't mean in the hot in the sexual sense (although clearly it's that, too). But one of the best ways to combat cold is through sharing of body heat. Everyone has seen plenty of movies or read plenty of books that prove getting intimately close is an excellent way to ward away the cold. And seriously, just ask a partner to think back to how heated up they usually get during moments of intimacy.

- Go in for pre-heating. It's true that when a person pulls back the blankets or comforter and literally hits the sheets that the bedding can be quite cold - even if the room itself is warm. If that's the case, consider using a bedwarmer or a couple of heating pads to take off some of the chill. (Definitely monitor the situation with anything electric, of course.)

- Or go flannel. Many people find flannel sheets much are less inclined to hold a chill than regular cotton sheets. And store the satin ones away till the spring; they tend to keep a chill longer.

- Warm up by the fire. As all bros know, a roaring fire is way high on the romance scale. Cuddling and kissing in front of the fire can be a great prelude to a full-scale sexual encounter. And if there's a comfortable rug and quilt nearby, or a cozy sofa, the sex can be had right in front of the fire itself, making things both hot and convenient.

- Warm up inside, too. One of the pleasures of the winter is imbibing nice hot drinks. Some hot cocoa can help take the chill off - or for those who prefer more adult drinks, sharing sips from a big snifter of brandy can be quite romantic.

- Keep the clothes on (or some). One of the nicest things about coupling is the feeling of skin against skin. But if the weather is too cold, there's something to be said for keeping clothes on and just exposing the bare necessities. For many, it doesn't even have to mean keeping all their clothes on; sometimes just keeping socks on helps keep the body heat in. And many women look sexy posing in the buff - except for a ski cap on their heads.

Regular sex really is part of good penis care, and a guy can't let a little cold weather stop him. But regardless of the temperature, he also needs to take other steps for optimal penis care. Key among these is the daily use of a top drawer penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). Penis health is impacted by a lot of things, including the ability of the penile blood vessels to expand to accommodate a proper flow of blood. A crème with L-arginine can help in this area, as this amino acid helps produce nitric oxide, which in turn helps open up the blood vessels. The crème should also include vitamin B5. Also known as pantothenic acid, vitamin B5 is a vital nutrient required for cell metabolism and the maintenance of healthy tissue.

Alcohol results in damage and inflammation of the liver cells, thus infiltrating a lot of fat cells into the liver. Alcohol also restricts the process of healing. Restricting alcohol is an essential towards cutting down fat in the liver. Low-fat alcohol such as red wine and brandy can be consumed twice or thrice in a week. If a person is suffering from a chronic liver condition, a doctor should be consulted before alcohol.
  3. Protein consumption: Breakfast should have an adequate amount of protein. It balances the blood sugar level of body, helps to fight cravings and helps the liver to detoxify foreign objects. Some good sources of protein include eggs, nuts, chicken, seeds and fish. The serving size should not be more than 4-6 ounces per day. Proper intake of protein will slowly reduce fat in the liver.
  4. Fresh fruit and vegetable: Fresh fruits and vegetables are some of the most powerful agents in cleansing liver toxins. They have the capacity to repair liver filters and remove excess fat. Even juice of vegetables fetches excellent results in getting rid of excess fats. Fruits, on the other hand, possesses vital mineral and vitamins that are used by the liver to eradicate fat cells.
  5. Get moving: If the endeavour is to remove fat from the liver, running and daily exercise has a pivotal role in achieving it. If a person has never worked out, a good way to start is to spend half an hour in a day running and doing free hand exercise.
