I am 45 years old, I am suffering from thyroid from 2 years and they suggested me to have thyronorm 25 mg but after taking it continuously also the thyroid has increased and now doctors have told me to take 50 mg I need your opinion.

Swethaji, TSH levels will increase if thyroxin dosage being taken is not adequate. So it is very essential to take adequate dose right from beginning. Dose of thyroxine is depending upon TSH level, T4 level and patients weight. If properly calculated dose is given, then TSH will be in check. Now it is better you take 50 mcg per day and then check TSH after 6 weeks. Ideally on treatment TSH should be between 3 to 4 milli units/L. Then only all symptoms are in control. Hello lybrate-user, your doctor is doing right thing he will be increasing dose till it gets normalcy. It's double edge sword you know hypo and hyper thyroid both are problem.
