Hi I am a 21 years old boy having thyroid problems. I am taking thyronorm 50 mcg but the thing is that I became too fat, my weight increased a lot, I can not concentratein my studies And carrieralso physical workout is not helping a lot. Is there is any therapy or alternate medicine to treat this disease?

Mr. Lybrate-user, if hypothyroidism is well controlled then efforts to reduce weight will be successful. For adequate control of hypothyroidism tsh levels should be around 3 to 4 mili units/l. So please check the levels and inform. Only workout is not going to help, there has to be a properly planned diet, that provides calories based on your ideal body weight and workouts. Should avoid high fatty foods, junk foods, sweetened aerated drinks and pastries. Also refrain from alcohol and smoking. Workout has to be intense, preferably under guidance. Taks for the question.
