My grandmother is 80 years old now. Three months ago high TSH was detected and it was 113.4.Doctor prescribed eltroxin 100 for that. After one month the TSH level dropped to 0.19. Then eltroxin 50 was prescribed. Now after two months her tsh has again dropped to 0.059. Her T3 and T4 are 69.72 and 7.2 respectively. Now what should be the exact power of medicine for her? Besides due to low Hb (two months ago it was 7.1), she is taking feronia XT from last two months. Now her Hb level is 8.7. Should I continue the medicine for one month more?

lybrate-user ji, Thanks for the query. In elderly a slightly higher TSH value (around 6 mU/L) is acceptable. In fact a slightly higher TSH is considered to be cardio protective. Bringing down is not advisable. Since present TSH is 0.095 mU/L, better to reduce the dosage to 12.5 mcg, then check TSH level after 6 weeks. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.
