I am type 1 diabetic patient. My sugar levels are in normal range in morning before workout 100-120. But after workout it raises upto 200-260. Even if it normal cardio or walk of 3-4 kms. I am on insulin novomix 50 and novomix 30. What should be the pre workout snack that can help me keep regular sugar levels even after workout. I tried having banana, 1bread and 1fry egg, 1guava. But none of these worked out for me. Also what could be the reason for the same? Are there any chances that it goes hypo during workout, is it recommended to take glucose water during regular intervals in my workout. Please suggest.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. One should not start an exercise or a workout if blood glucose is < 100 mg. Then a pre workout snack of some carb about 20 to 25 g may be taken. This will help in avoiding post exercise low glucose. However, if your glucose is high enough, then there is no need for a pre -exercise snack. Plus the workout of 3 t 4 kms walk or cardio (time not mentioned) is not such a vigorous one. Sometimes if the stress hormone (cortisone) level goes up then there may be higher level of glucose. In such a situation there may not be any need for snack before exercise. Thanks.

Agreed however pre workout normal or high level should not worry as it will settle within a few hrs with regular medication oral/injectable.
