My mother is suffering from rectal cancer stage 3, she has undergone radiation +chemo for a month and now it has ended. The doctor said he will do a pet scan after a month and will give review on operation. Now from past few days she is suffering from continuous fever. Kindly guide why fever is staying permanently. She is 62 years of age.

Hi, Your mother needs to be seen by the radiation oncologist or the surgeon who advised the chemoradiation. Infection has to be ruled out. Also effects of chemo and radio therapy also have to be looked into. Sometimes a very low white cell count after chemotherapy leads to fever. Consult as soon as possible.
