Hello sir ,I need to know why the clinician should stand back to palpate thyroid gland?

Mr. lybrate-user Prasanth, Thanks for the query. Thyroid gland can be palpated (felt) better by standing behind the patient and plcing the fingers on the gland and feeling it. It can also be felt from the front also. Plus patient is also asked to drink water to see if the swelling is visible and moves with swallowing movement. These are methods to see and feel the swollen gland. Thanks.
