Hello.My mother is suffering from Thyroid with TSH= 12.0. What kind of problem is this? Is it possible to completely cure this problem? Or lifetime medications? I got no reply about the period of medications. Kindly brief me about the pattern of problem and medications. Thank you.

Hello, Thanks for the query. With TSH 12.0 mU/L, she has hypothyroidism. This needs to be treated with Levothyroxine. Dosage has to be decided on the basis of TSH, T4 value and her body weight. Treatment has to be for lifetime. If not treated it can lead to multiple problems like weight gain, cold intolerance, slow heart rate, tiredness, early fatigue, muscle and joint pains, anxiety, depression, dry skin, dry hair and hair fall and menstrual problems. Early initiation of treatment is necessary. On treatment TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. If you have any doubts please come back. Thanks.
