Common Problems That can Affect Your Voice
Common Problems That can Affect Your Voice

Problems that create difficulty in speaking-

I’m an ENT specialist. I served in the army for 15 years, following which I am now in private practice in Vasant Vihar, South Delhi. Today, we will discuss hoarsness, or cracking of the voice or difficulty in speaking.

Hoarseness of the voice quite commonly arises if you have some kind of a vocal strain or a sore throat that has not been adequately treated. Nowadays, we believe that acidity reflux can also cause hoarseness. If your voice has been hoarsed and you are not speaking for more than at least two to three weeks, it is essential for you to have your vocal cords checked and diagnosed because we want to make sure that you are not suffering from any dangerous disease like cancer or some other problem which can spread and which is important for us to treat early.

If you go to the ENT specialist for an appointment, they normally will give a local anaesthetic in your throat and take a detailed look at your vocal cords with scopes which are either 70degreese or a 90-degree radioscopy. Sometimes they will like to do flexible fibre operated laparoscopy which would let them see your vocal cords in great detail. my request to you is hoarseness that is persisting for some time please do not ignore as it could be as serious problem.

As well as health tips are concerned we normally request people to not to speak very loudly not to speak for very long a period at a time. If your throat goes dry while speaking please use some sips or water to moisten your throat. Avoid smoking avoid drinking alcohol and avoid taking chilled water because these can affect your vocal cords in a negative way.

If there is a problem you can get in touch with me via lybrate through the various problems available or call my clinic set up an appointment for us to evaluate you and find out your cause and treat you.

Causes of an Earache in Children
Causes of an Earache in Children

Tips and causes of ear ache-
I’m an ENT specialist. I served in the army for 15 years, following which I am now in private practice in Vasant Vihar, South Delhi. Today, we will discuss about children having pain in the ear.

One of the commonest reason for which the parents take their child to a doctor is for an earache. Earache’s in children is most commonly caused because of cold that has gone out for some time, because in this case fluid or material gets in the middle ear of the children causes pressure upon the eardrum or tympanic membrane and causes pain. Sometimes pain may be because of some infection related to swimming as in a swimmers ear or wax or an external ear infection.

The commonest treatment for this is to start the child on some kind of an anti-histamine micro-lite as well as some nasal spray or drops so that the congestion due to blockage caused by infection should be open up.

Most of the time children will wake up in the night 3 or 4 o clock crying with pain if they have had a cold for some time a pain in the ear is usually relieved by this crying. In these instances, it is better to give the child a simple pain killer or a paracetamol and instil some nasal drops because that will help the child. Try to go to the doctor so that the doctor can determine the cause of the pain and star treatment. I would like to tell you that most often antibiotics are not necessary in these cases but a proper ENT consultation is required so that the child can be diagnosed properly.

Our clinic treats an ear infection in people very very frequently. I will request you to call me or send me a message, in case you have a query otherwise you can get in touch with my clinic staff they will give you an appointment.

Causes and Treatments of Epistaxis
Causes and Treatments of Epistaxis

Causes and treatments for Epistaxis-

Me Dr Bhardwaj hoon. I’m an ENT specialist. I served in the army for 15 years, following which I am now in private practice in Vasant Vihar, South Delhi. Today, my discussion would be about epistaxis which is nasal bleeding.

Nasal bleeding is one of the most common problems associated with children as well as with elderly people. In children, the cause can be because they insert a foreign body in the nose may be because of an infection, sometimes because they dig their nose and can be also because of a sinus problem. We usually try to find out the cause of this bleeding, we put in a nasal endoscope diagnose the source of the bleeding and we sieve the blood vessels via a procedure called nasal endoscopy and cauterization. This is a safe procedure and well tolerated by children.

In Nasal bleeding, the diagnosis should not be delayed because sometimes there may be a serious cause. In the elderly people because of high blood pressure, because of bleeding problems as well as medicines that they take for heart problems and vascular strands they have more nasal bleeding because their blood has become thinner. In these patients, you should not delay having a diagnosed properly as well as being treated and also try to apply some cold packs near the cheek and around the nose so that the bleeding can stop.

The procedure again will be in the clinic setting, we put a nasal endoscope, we identify the source of the bleeding and then we cauterize with a chemical or with electrical therapy. In children, if they are bleeding at home, the first aid methodology is to pinch their nostril so that with pressure you can stop the bleeding and also try to apply some ice pack around the nose so that the bleeding can stop. It is better to make the child sit up rather than lie down because if the child lies down the blood is likely to trickle down the throat.

For any problem related to nasal bleeding, you are welcome to contact me through lybrate.com on the various platforms that are available including sending me a query.

My clinic is always available to take care of these emergencies and you can get in touch with me through lybrate.com.
