I am 48 year old woman. My cholesterol level total cholesterol 214 mg dl, triglycerides 176 mg dl, HDL 53 mg dl, LDL 123 mg dl. My physician prescribed Ecosprin av 75 for one month and Jubira 5 to continue next two months. I know that this medicine causes diabetes. What can I do?

Thanks for the query. I have seen the details given. According to me there is really no need to for for any statins. As total cholesterol is 214 mg, LDL 123 mg & TGL is 176 mg. These can be brought to normal level by dietary adjustment and regular exercise. So I do not see the need for two statins Atorvastatin (in Ecosprin AV75) & Rosuvastatin. I would not have recommended either of them As regards rosuvastatin causing diabetes, this is not entirely true. There is a slight increase in the risk of developing diabetes T2 after using statins for over 4 to 5 years, but benefits out weigh the risk. In your situation lifestyle change and diet change will be more beneficial. Thanks.
