Last Updated: Apr 20, 2024

What is the treatment?

How is the treatment done?

This is a condition where the high blood pressure levels in your body would result in seizures during the times of pregnancy. Seizures are basically abnormal brain activities that can cause an individual to stall for a long time, violent shaking at times. You can develop this condition even if you or someone in your family do not have a history of seizures. In some cases this condition can be developed from kidney diseases or even from diabetes. The symptoms of this condition of Eclampsia involve swelling in the face and hands, prolonged headaches, abnormal weight gains and nausea with vomiting. High blood pressure is the most common reasons for this condition. Having high blood pressures can lead you to damage your arteries and restrict the proper blood flow associated with the nerves and arteries. This can cause various inflammations which are harmful for the baby. If these inflammations hamper the brain activity of the person then they might be a victim of the seizures. This condition causes many complications that are harmful for the baby. In severe cases of this condition one can expect a still birth. You should consult with your medical expert and keep your blood pressure levels under a therapeutic level to avoid such complications. Thus you should be monitored carefully during times of pregnancy.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Various tests are required to find out the areas where the blood clotting takes place and this test also helps to determine the course of treatment for this condition. These blood tests will also check whether your kidney and liver are functioning properly or not. Your medical expert might also require a urine test to check the creatinine levels in your body. Medications play a vital role for the treatment procedure for this condition. You need medications to lower your blood pressure levels if you have high blood pressure and you might also be medicated on a low dose aspirin. Diet is also an important factor for the treatment of this condition. You should consume foods that are rich in calcium. You also require adequate rest to prevent having these seizures. Solutions of magnesium sulfate might be injected in your body to decrease the high blood pressure levels. This condition of eclampsia might occur during the time of pregnancy or after the child is born, the mother should be monitored completely to keep and check the blood pressure levels. If the blood pressure levels are not kept at a therapeutic level then the problems will continue and cause various complications.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

During pregnancy if you experience excessive swelling of your hands and face, abnormal weight gain, nausea and vomiting. If you experience sudden seizures, loss of consciousness and agitation then you should call your medical expert.
