Hello Doctor My father is a diabetic patient and he has Average Blood Glucose [ABG] 278. Under such circumstances he is trying to reduce ABG as much as possible. Currently he is taking ayurvedic medicines, now he is planning to take medicines like carom seeds, Aloe Vera juice etc. .Kindly suggest me whether he can take these medicines along with ayurvedic medicines, if yes any possibility of side effects. Thank You.

Mr. lybrate-user, Averge blood glucose 278 mg / 100 ml is too high. A well controlled diabetic should have FBS closer to 100 mg, PP 160 to 180 mg & HbA1c%<7. If this not maintained then long term serious complications of diabetes related to various vital organs are likely to manifest much rapidly. Please clarify whether he is only on ayurvedic drugs for diabetes or he is also taking some modern medicines. Unfortunately there are no drugs in alternated medical practices (Ayurved & Homeopathy) for diabetes, even though a lot of claims are made by them. Plus diabetes can only be controlled by taking appropriate modern medicines, restricted diet and regular exercise. Thanks.

Try to control the diabetes with allopathic agent alone, you can use the other system of medicine but main should be allopathic agent and blood glucose level need to be managed on tight rule basis, other system of medicine could give false sensation of security.
