I'm taking medication from 1 and half years for depression. My depressive symptoms are too controlled. But now i'm again having the symptom of tunes running in my ears every time. Is this auditory hallucination seen in schizophrenia? It is a very disturbing symptom. I'm not able to study due to it. My psychiatrist changes medicine from risperidone to aripiprazole to amilife but still they are not controlled. Pls help how to get rid of it? My mood is normal due to medicines.

Tunes running in ear may or may not be schizophrenia (not a major criteria of schizophrenia according to icd 10, however a major criteria according to dsm 5) have you got ent evaluation, basic blood investigations and mri brain done? Discus with your psychiatrist regarding change of medicines and possibility of cbt and masking techniques. Â

Yes, you are right. It is a symptom of schizophrenia. You mention that you are 'again having the symptom' does that mean that that was a previous symptom? In which case, it appears you have been put on the right medication, and you say that your 'mood is normal due to medicines' this is a good sign that the medication and the dosage are good for you. Please meet with your doctor and let him/her review the dosage. I suggest for best results that you go for counseling too. Because it is a psychotic condition you need to be made to relate to reality often by confronting the distortion of your environment, especially the auditory kind. You may be given to delusions, hallucinations, and disordered thinking and speech too. You may be emotionally unresponsive, suffering from social withdrawal, extreme apathy, and lack of initiative and drive. If you are allowed to go internal you can strongly relate to your distortions and in fact, believe in them to be true. Your cooperation with rehabilitation and medical intervention may often not be as desirable as it should be. If that is true you may disturb your timely recovery. In which case, someone has to monitor you constantly and enforce some compliance. You must be kept functional to get you to be aware of your surroundings and build on a steady and trusting relationship with at least one member of the community. You will be difficult to handle, and you yourself will not find it easy to comply with therapeutic expectations. With someone strong and firm you could be made to follow a tight schedule and do many activities and exercises to prevent you from succumbing to this illness. If you learn by reading aloud or someone else reads the material out to you, you can concentrate a lot better. You could also study by writing down the answers. Â

Hello there! it cannot be said without more information if what you're experiencing is an auditory hallucination usually seen in schizophrenia. As you said that your psychiatrist had changed the medicine but still this is continuing, I would suggest you to seek counselling and psychotherapy while keeping your medicines as prescribed by your psychiatrist to discuss what ever you're going through and follow a holistic approach to the concern and work on it accordingly.
