I am diagnosed with autism disorder and tourette syndrome finally after 19 years of continuous medication. My previous diagnosis was schizophrenia and depression. The doctor has prescribed me risperidone 2 mg, aripiprazole 15 mg and zoldem/zolp 20 mg all at night. But this medication has caused me insomnia. Initially I used to lay down whole night but no sleep. I get only 3 to 4 hours sleep now. My question is can I replace zoldem with serenace/haldol 5 mg? How much does of haldol should I take with risp and aripip?

Zolpidem is not useful for insomnia due to your condition. You have to discuss this issue with the psychiatrist and get alternatives, sedative anti psychotics, which would give wholesome sleep and symptom control. Good luck.

Dear lybrate-user, please don't change the medication on your own. Discuss your concern with your doctor. Haldol acts at various dose differently. At 0.25 mg dose for tourette syndrome, at 2 - 8 mg dose like risperidone. For insomnia haldol may not be a good choice.
