My father is 68 years old was diagnosed with papillary renal cell carcinoma type 1. Our doctor said this is a stage 4 kidney cancer as they've found similar mass in the lungs. Now the doctor has prescribed us to go with targeted therapy with a tablet called stent. The tablet price is too expensive for us and we cannot afford it. With a little research, We've found there is a tablet called votrient which is quite similar to this and are affordable. We just would like to get an opinion from a medical oncologist who can help us understand which medicine is suited for my father condition. Appreciate your help in this regard.

Since it is a case of rcc the first line would be sunitinib or votrient the side effect profile is better with votrient. The cost also favors votrient. So if cost is an issue please go ahead with votrient. Won't make difference as far as the effectiveness is concerned.

Even for stage 4 tumour is major part of tumour can be removed by doing nephrectomy (removing kidney) then that should be preferred as a cytoreductive nephrectomy and then this targeted therapy can be given.
