I am diabetic since last 5 years. Last year I suffered from high ketone and equally high sugar. Since then I am regularly taking lantus and actrapid insulin, as per my doctor advice. Apart from other medicines. Is there any medicine alternate to insulin especially lantus. My age is 50 yrs. Please advice. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. The very fact that you had developed an episode of ketosis, due to very high glucose level, doctor has prescribed insulin injection for providing better glucose control. In that situation, it is very unlikely that your glucose level can be controlled without using insulin. Another aspect if the glucose levels are in excellent control, it is possible to shift to oral drugs, that you can ask the doctor treating you. I will not be in a position to decide in this situation. Thanks.
