I am 21 years old my illness is depression for last two years I went to the psychiatrist he wrote for me sertraline 50 mg but I did not get any results. My question is can I get medication for this bad depression or I will be like this all my life. Also my father has a depression. Thank you.

Dear Sir Thank you for your query. Depression is a treatable mental health problem. So please do not lose hope. Antidepressant medication like sertraline can take up to 2 weeks to start showing an effect and in case sertraline did not effective, there are several other antidepressant that can be tried. Apart from medication, exercise, meditation and counseling are also helpful. Also, certain physical health problems like vitamin deficiency and thyroid disorder can result in Depression.
