You must understand the basics of the diabetes problem. Read more about the details from the internet. Since there is insulin resistance, and the insulin is secreted in some amounts, the sugar levels keep on increasing unless controlled either by diet / exercise / medicines or all combined together. So the end result depends on many factors (some of which are not in one's control!). While some may end up using insulin (which is really not bad as it is the only thing needed to stay in control ), some may be able to control with proper diet and exercise and medicines. Being aware and vigilant and following a disciplined and healthy lifestyle is very important wether one is on oral tablets or on insulin. One has to go for regular health check up with a doctor even if all is well just to ensure all the vital organs are working fairly well.

Not necessarily he will end up with insulin. Follow strict diabetic diet, exercise regularly, monitor blood sugar regularly, take prescribed medicines religeously and follow intruction of your doctor.
