If someone is diagnosed with 11. 5 thyroid tsh level and then doctor suggest no medicine to take wait for 4 weeks and test repeat and then medicine start is it OK. And if once started thyroid medicine then dies one will continue lifelong.

your doctor is perfectly correct. in mild subclinical hypothyroidism where t4 is normal one can wait and watch to see the progress. if there is an increasing trend of tsh on follow up it's a good indication to start thyroxine. no thyroxine can be tapered and stopped in well controlled hypothyroidism. it's a misconception that it cannot be stopped. response varies from patient to pt
