My daughter is diagnosed with thyroid, she is 13 years old and is down syndrome, normal range is .3 - 5.5 and the report says 48.09, we consulted the pediatrician and he recommended the medicine Eltroxin tablet - 50 mg. Is this medicine ok or you recommended any other?

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. If hypothyroidism is diagnosed with TSH value of 48.09 mU/L, then treatment has to be with levothyroxine. Dosage is calculated on the basis of patient's weight, T4 & TSH values. It is better to begin with 50 mcg per day, then test TSH after 6 weeks and lf level is more than 3 to 4 mU/L then dose has to be increased. If you have any doubts please come back, thanks.
