Hi, I am Dr Akhilendra Singh, consultant dermatologist in AKS skin clinic. I am MD from PGI Chand...

Hi, I am Dr Akhilendra Singh, consultant dermatologist in AKS skin clinic. I am MD from PGI Chandigarh. Today I am going to talk about the common aesthetic procedure, which is Laser Hair Reduction.

There are a lot of doubts and myths in laser hair removal like it is Painful, skin damage ho sakti hai, koi permanent problem ho sakti hai, skin cancer ho sakta Hai.

So the answer is that there is very mild discomfort during the treatment procedure. Here in AKS clinic, we use Diode laser and there is no chance of skin damage in diode laser hair removal. And it has no relation with skin cancer.

Now with an advanced diode laser, we can treat all hair bearing areas. Even the sensitive areas like upper lip or the bikini area. Only we avoid is an area under the eyes. Laser hair reduction is not only for females for even men can pursue this treatment for beard shape, for unwanted hair, for the back, and the chest.

Now, there is a very common section ki laser hair reduction me kitne sessions lagenge?

So it varies person to person and the area to be treated. But generally, it takes 6-8 sessions at 4-6 weeks interval. and after that 90% of hair gets permanently destroyed and there occurs hair reduction.

Advantages-

  • You look elegant.
  • It saves time, money, energy
  • It boosts up the confidence
  • And medically if we see, there are the chances of inner growth of hair after waxing. But laser hair reduction cures this problem permanently.

Side effects-

If we use Diode laser, under doctor's supervision, practically there is no side effect. But somebody is using some other laser or a good laser without doctor's supervision, then it may lead to burning, pigmentation permanently. So choose Laser Hair removal centre wisely. If you have any further query, you can contact me through Lybrate.

Thank you.

Hello, I'm Dr Akhilendra Singh, consultant hair transplant surgeon AKS clinics. I am MD from PGI,...

Hello, I'm Dr Akhilendra Singh, consultant hair transplant surgeon AKS clinics. I am MD from PGI, Chandigarh and member of an Association of Hair Restoration Surgeon of India.

Hair transplant is a safe and permanent solution for baldness.Today I will discuss technique of hair transplant broadly. There are two techniques only:

  • One is the older technique which is known as strip techniques
  • Second technique is follicular unit extraction or FUE.

FUE is the newer and far better technique than the older strip technique.

So, first I will talk about strip technique:   In the strip technique, we need to take a strip from the back of the head. Here we need to cut the skin along the hair strict length is approx 20 to 30 centimetres and width is 1 to 1.5 centimetres. Then we need to put suture and sutures are removed after one week.

Drawbacks of the strip technique was that,

  • We can take Graft only from the back of the head,  i.e, the scalp. We cannot take graft we cannot utilize graph from the body like the beard or Chest. So we cannot correct the big bald area in one go.
  • The second problem with the strip techniques is that it is more invasive because it is cut. There is suture for there is chance of bleeding during surgery. There is a chance of little more discomfort pain after surgery which takes more time to heal.
  • The third problem with this trick technique that it will definitely leave a permanent linear scar in the back of the head.

Now the second technique of hair transplant is follicular unit extraction.

Here we have extract Graft one by one from the back of the head. We can also extract from beard and the body area with a specialized instrument. In this technique, there is no cut and no sutures. So practically it is painless, is scarless and suture-less technique. Since the inception of the FUE, we are doing a lot of improvement in the technique.

The latest version is direct hair transplant or direct hair implant what we known as DST. In this technique here are taken and implanted side by side so that practically there is no time where grafts are hair grafts are out of body and it increases the survival by many folds. So the bottom line is in the modern FUE or DST techniques.

Advantages of DST:

  • We can take the number of grafts in one go so we can cover a big bald area in one session.
  • It is very comfortable for the patient. Healing time is just 24hours or less than that. So he can resume duty from the very next day.
  • DST technique we are reducing out of body time. We are increasing the result better results, faster results without any downtime.

So there is no drawback of an FUE DST technique. The only thing it is more time-consuming as it is more tedious and needs more experience to operate.

The importance of selecting the right Hair Transplant clinic and the parameters to decide

Hello! I am Doctor Akhilendra Singh, consultant hair transplant surgeon at APS Clinic. I am MD from PGI Chandigarh and member of Association of hair Restoration surgeon in India. Today I will discuss about how to choose a good hair transplant center?

Since nowadays a lot of centers run by non-medical professionals are mushrooming. So it is very difficult for the patient’s point of view to choose a good hair transplant center. And I will elaborate the points and they will be helpful for the patients is zero downing a good hair transplant center.

First and foremost for hair transplant consultations the patient should visit a center where he can consult with the operating surgeon himself and not in a salon or some self-proclaimed cosmetic centers which are run by non-medical professionals and consultation run by marketing a staff. Marketing a staff’s main motive is to sell hair transplant like any other product and they cannot guide properly because they themselves are not doctors Secondly for hair transplant the patient should look for basic infrastructure in the clinic like a proper dedicated OT and provision for sterilization. It is a surgery and it cannot be done by homeopathic or ayurvedi or Unani doctors, because they are not trained for any surgery.

Hair transplant is a minor surgery but requires a major artistry in order to provide a very natural result. Since it is a time consuming surgery, so it requires a lot of patience from the doctor and its team and from patient as well. Time consuming doesn't mean that there is any pain or discomfort, so hair transplant surgery should be without any pain or without any discomfort and the patient should be able to start and resume his normal day to day activity from the very next day and it is possible only when it is performed by an experienced hair transplant surgeon. While choosing hair transplant center patient should be smart enough, he should use his mind and he should not be lured by marketing gimmick like robotic hair transplant, very lucrative offers, or unlimited hair transplant.

In hair transplant surgery we need to extract the hair from the back side of the head and transplant on the bald zone, so donor area is limited and nothing is called unlimited hair transplant. Now coming to the complications or any side effect during the hair transplant. Since hair transplant is a surgery so we order few routine blood investigations before the surgery like blood sugar level hemogram...etc to avoid any complication. After all hair transplant is a surgery so center should be well equipped to take care of any emergency, though emergencies are very rare, but it may happen.

For any further consultation you can contact me via lybrate.

Hello, I am Dr. Akhilendra Singh consultant dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon at AK s cli...

Hello, I am Dr. Akhilendra Singh consultant dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon at AK’s clinic. Today I will discuss a very common problem which is hair loss and consequent baldness in males. Now around 40% individual had this problem. The primary root cause is genetic. There are medicines in order to prevent hair loss but for baldness, the only treatment is hair transplant which is a minor surgery but needs major artistry in order to provide a successful natural result and without any complications or side effect to the patients.

If you go in the history of hair transplant the successful hair transplant start in late 1980’s. It has come a long way from strip technique to manual punches to the motoric refuge and now the most advanced the most advance the Direct hair transplant or Direct hair implant. In this trip technique, we need to cut skin along with hair and put sutures and that technique was not suitable for the patients at all. Nowadays we do hair transplant with most advanced and newer technique of follicular unit extraction with some smart and newer innovation which is known as direct hair transplant or direct hair implant. Now coming to basics of hair transplant. The basic is we extract hair graft from permanent Joan of the head and transplant at the bald area.

Now, what is permanent join? If you see hair start shedding from the frontal Joan here line recedes and baldness goes from front to back or sometimes baldness starts from the very top. But this whole area is vulnerable and if you see the hair at the back of the head and sides and they always present and they form permanent Joan. Those hairs are immune for androgenic alopecia or genetic baldness.

Now if we transplant hair from this permanent Joan and transplant it to bald area. They will continue to grow for the whole life as they were growing at the back of the head. This is the basic of hair transplant. That is why the result of hair transplant is permanent. Now, what makes hair transplant result excellent, average or poor? First and foremost, the experience of hair transplant surgeon and his team. Secondly, instruments what we use during surgery is proper sterilization and a dedicated operation Theatre for the procedure and last but not least post-transplant instructions and care are as important as the procedure. So if these things are taken care of then the result of hair transplant must be excellent only. The goal of hair transplant should be; provide as natural results as possible to cover the big bald area in one go or without any side effect or discomfort to the patient.

If you have any further query regarding hair transplant you can consult me on Lybrate.

Botox for Men - How It Works!!

Botox for Men - How It Works!!

Caring for their look is no longer only restricted to women, men care about their looks just as much as women. In fact, it would be more suitable to say that majority of today's population cares about their looks and appearance. In an effort to look younger many men now-a-days are turning to Botox injections in order to get a more youthful appearance. There is no significant difference between Botox effects on men and women.

Here are nine things that men can expect with Botox treatment:

  1. A Ten Minute Procedure: The actually process of getting a Botox injection does not take longer than 10 to 15 minutes. There is no need for anesthesia and it can easily be performed as an outpatient procedure. A Botox injection is relatively pain-free.
  2. Get Back to Work: Botox is a procedure that you can get done even on your lunch break. Since it does not involve anesthesia of any kind, you can get straight back to the office within an hour of having the procedure. However, it is best to avoid strenuous activities and exercising for a week after the procedure.
  3. Quick Results: Botox results are not immediate but can be seen within 3 to 5 days of the injection being given. Optimal results can be noted 2 weeks after the process.
  4. Swelling and Bruising: Mild swelling is observed at the injection site, which resolves in max 1-2 hours, bruising is very rare, but if happens resolves on its own in 2-3 days maximum and can be easily concealed with light make up.
  5. Effects that Last 4 to 6 Months: Botox injections do make you look younger, but its effects do not last forever. The effect of Botox injections usually lasts for 4 to 6 months. After this, you will need to go through the procedure again to maintain the youthful appearance.
  6. Slowed Pace of Aging: Botox can also be used as a preventive measure when it comes to aging. Many men find that Botox can help prevent the formation of wrinkles and soften fine lines.
  7. Headaches: Though Botox injections are also a form of treatment for chronic migraines, one of the side effects of Botox is a mild headache. This should resolve itself within a few hours and is not something to worry about.
  8. A Few Side-Effects: Generally no untoward side effects are noted if done with the right technique, some rare side effects are drooping of eyelids which resolves on its own in 2 months.
  9. Compliments: 'Rested, refreshed, good'; These are some of the words you should get used to hearing when people talk about the way you look. As long as you use Botox in moderation and get the procedure done by an experienced doctor, you should be ready to look fabulous.

Effective Anti-Aging Skin Care After Menopause

MBBS, MD - Dermatology
Dermatologist, Gurgaon
Effective Anti-Aging Skin Care After Menopause

Every woman endure menopause, by the time she reaches middle age. It comes with a lot of complications, and skin changes are also not spared. It is vital to know how to fight the skin changes of menopause to take right actions at the right time.

Changes Experienced: Major problems faced are hormonal changes and their declines. Ultimately, ovarian activity slows down decreasing in B-Estradiol levels. This leads to hot flashes or warmth feel under the skin, especially on face and profuse sweating. The overall experience leads to decrease in the production of estrogen and progesterone, leading to skin changes.

  1. Oily Skin: Testosterone production is prominent that stimulates sebaceous glands to secrete thicker sebum making skin appear oily.
  2. Facial Hair: Some women show development of facial hair, especially on chin.
  3. Sagging Skin and Wrinkles: Decrease in estrogen leads to fat redistribution. This results in skin sagging on face, neck, hands and arms.
  4. Elastosis: Lower estrogen levels lead to decrease in collagen and elastin in the skin dermis. UV rays destroy collagen resulting in elastosis.
  5. Thinning Epidermis: This leads to trans-epidermal water loss and dry skin.
  6. Hyperpigmentation / Age Spots: Melanin production is tampered.

How to Fight Against It

Here are some tips on how to fight the skin changes of menopause.
1. With age, skin becomes dry. Right cleanser with a creamy formula is a solution for dry skin.
2. Use heavier cream to moisten your skin. Avoid hot, long showers.
3. Skin protection from sunlight is a must. Choose a sunscreen that is from a broad-spectrum SPF30 or higher and use it regularly.
4. Due to hormonal changes, wrinkles appear, and hence you need to apply moisturizer on face, jawline and neck regularly. Use skin-care products meant to act against fine lines and sagging.
5. Face, hands and chest usually get affected with age spots. Use sunscreen every day. Those who are already affected with spots, use exfoliating products. These products help to shed dead skin cells. Toners may also help.
6. Apply moisturiser on hands too and wear gloves while doing household or yard work.
7. Eat foods with antioxidants such as brightly-coloured fruits and vegetables.
8. Soy, which is rich in isoflavones, acts like estrogen in the body.
9. Stress tends to make skin drier. Yoga, meditation, etc. helps to relax.
10. Do exercise regularly to tone your muscles.
11. Sleep well: Beauty sleep is most essential to regenerate your cells. Sleep prevents dark circles under eyes. Around 8 to 9 hours of sleep is recommended.

Now you know how to fight the skin changes of menopause. Follow the tips and then age will be just a number. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Dermatologist.

10 Tips to Prevent Your Skin from Harsh Sun

MBBS, MD - Dermatology

10 Tips to Prevent Your Skin from Harsh Sun

The harsh sun during summer causes several problems apart from just sunburn. Prolonged exposure to the sun may lead to several skin conditions like brown spots, red and scaly spots, wrinkling, drying and skin cancer. It is important for you to prevent your skin from such harmful effects of the sun. Here are 10 tips you must follow in order to safe guard your skin against sun damage:

  1. Wear a sunscreen: You must apply a thick layer of sunscreen lotion on your skin before going out in the harsh sun, as a thin coating will reduce the effectiveness.
  2. Cover yourself up: It is important for you to cover up properly before going out in the sun. Clothing of dark and tightly woven materials absorb UV rays more than cotton fabrics of light shades. Hence, you should avoid dark clothes and wear light ones. When the sun is very harsh, a well-brimmed hat is also recommended for protection of your head.
  3. Stay indoors: You should avoid the sun during its peak and most intense hours, specifically between 10 in the morning to 4 in the evening. Try to stay indoors during these hours and use an umbrella, if you cannot avoid going out.
  4. Wear sunglasses: Sunglasses are a must before going out on an intense sunny day. Sun damage to the eyes can result in conditions like cataract and pterygium. Wear sunglasses with 99% to 100% UVB and UVA protection for keeping your eyes safe.
  5. Avoid reflective surfaces: Try to be careful near water, sand or snow, which are reflective surfaces. They reflect harmful rays of the sun, thereby increasing he chance of sunburn.
  6. Avoid sunbathing: During harsh sun conditions, you should avoid sun bathing. Fair-skinned people should keep away from sun bathing even more. When you observe that your shadow is shorter than you, you must find a shade.
  7. Do not get fooled by the weather: Do not think that a cloudy sky reduces the chances of a sun damage. In spite of a thick cloud cover, UV rays can penetrate your skin, thereby, causing substantial harm.
  8. Photosensitivity: Several medicines and drugs make the skin extra sensitive to the sun, increasing the risk of sunburn. Some herbal medicines are responsible as well. Keep away from these drugs.
  9. Avoid tanning beds: UVA rays present in tanning beds can penetrate your skin quite deep. In fact, regular exposure to UVA rays leads to skin drying and causes wrinkles.
  10. Consume antioxidants: Antioxidants provide protection from the sun’s rays. You should increase the consumption of vegetables, fruits and drink green tea during summer.

The sun’s rays cause more damage to the skin than you can think of. By following these preventive measures, you will be able to spend time in the sun without getting affected.
Keep the above-mentioned tips in mind and prevent your skin from the harsh sun.

8 Doctor Recommended Treatments for Anti-Aging

MBBS, MD - Dermatology

8 Doctor Recommended Treatments for Anti-Aging

You don’t have to stick to a DIY approach to fighting the effects of aging. The professionals have more procedures at their disposal than ever to treat wrinkles, sun spots, and sagging skin. Find out how your dermatologist can help you take your anti-aging routine to another level.

Here are top 8 dermatological anti-aging treatments:

  1. Retinoid Creams: Retinoid is a substance extracted from vitamin A and it has excellent anti-aging properties. Though there are over-the-counter options, you can ask your dermatologist to prescribe a stronger retinoid cream.

  2. Peptide Creams: Short links of amino acids, or peptides, are beneficial for reducing fine lines and wrinkles. The skin loses collagen as you grow old; peptides based creams can encourage renewed production of collagen, thus revitalizing your skin from within.

  3. Microdermabrasion: This cosmetic procedure uses a diamond-tipped wand or fine, tiny particles to remove the topmost layer of skin. This is done to boost skin to grow anew. The procedure may be a bit uncomfortable, but not painful; and one of the most important upsides is that the skin heals quickly.

  4. Laser Skin Resurfacing: This procedure removes wrinkles by using high-intensity light. The light tightens the loose skin.

  5. Chemical Peels: Chemical peels are used to treat age spots, acne scars, skin discoloration, dull texture and wrinkles. Chemical peels remove the outermost layer of the skin to encourage new skin growth.

  6. Botox: Botox or botulinum toxin is a muscle relaxing treatment. When injected under the skin, it relaxes the muscles, which smooths out the wrinkles or lines on your face. Repeated Botox injections will significantly improve your appearance.

  7. Filler Injections: Hyaluronic acid fillers are the most popular fillers among dermatologists. Hyaluronic acid fills in wrinkles and lines and adds dimension to the face.

  8. Cosmetic Surgery: These include a wide range of surgical procedures such as facelifts, neck lifts and brow lifts. A single procedure or a combination of procedures is usually done.

Sebaceous cysts are also called as epidermoid cysts are characterized by the formation of small bumps beneath the skin, which are, however, noncancerous and can appear anywhere on the neck or face. Usually arising from sebaceous glands, sebaceous cysts are often harmless and take a long time to grow and develop. They normally do not cause any severe problems as such, but if they tend to be bothersome and painful, then you consult a doctor for treatment and diagnosis.

Signs and symptoms of sebaceous cysts include:

  1. Small, round bumps found underneath the skin.
  2. Formation of a thick, yellow, pungent-smelling material that may or may not leak from the cysts.
  3. Formation of small blackheads clogging the opening of the cyst.
  4. When inflamed, the area turns reddish in color and may swell up.

Causes behind it
Sebaceous cysts develop when the sebaceous glands or ducts are either damaged or clogged. Sebaceous glands generally secrete keratin and sebum, oils which are responsible for coating the hair and skin. Whenever they get blocked, these fluids accumulate, resulting in the formation of cysts. Whenever they get damaged, the cysts burst open and keratin oozes out as a thick and yellow fluid. Blockage or damage can occur because of any of the following reasons:

  1. Cuts, scratches and surgical wounds.
  2. Skin conditions like acne.
  3. Genetic problems like Garner's syndrome.
  4. Cell damage because of surgery.
  5. A deformed gland or duct.

A few factors which may make you more vulnerable to growing sebaceous cysts:

  1. If you have a history of acne.
  2. If you receive injuries to the skin.
  3. If you are past the age of puberty.
  4. If you have rare genetic disorders.

If the cysts trouble or bother you in any way, you should consider receiving treatment as they can cause further problems in the near future. These may include:

  1. Boil-like infections.
  2. Genital discomforts such as problems in urinating.
  3. Even when it is not infected, a cyst can get inflamed causing a lot of pain and uneasiness.
  4. Sebaceous cysts can, in extremely rare cases, lead to skin cancer.

How to Treat Fungal Nail Infections?

Nail fungus is a very common problem. Symptoms include inflammation, swelling, yellowing, thickening or crumbling of the nail. It is usually not painful, unless the infection spreads. If left untreated, nail fungus can cause cracking, splitting and even complete loss of the nail. The good news is that nail fungus is curable and can be treated very easily. There are many specialized treatments required for bringing quickest recovery. Most people think that medications are the only solution in this regard, but this is not true as there are many therapies that are needed along with medicines so that speed of recovery can be boosted to a great extent.

Treatments for fungal nail infections:

  1. Antifungal medications: Nails are first tested thoroughly in order to get the confirmation about nail fungus. Both growth and reproduction of fungal cells are prevented by consuming these medications. Some of these medicines are used for topical or external application while others are taken orally. Some of the physicians suggest continuing, both types of medicines simultaneously for getting more powerful effects and quick recovery. However, there are a few probable side-effects that occur while taking these medicines and these include loss in taste, rashes, diarrhoea, itching, headache and others.
  2. Using antifungal nail-paint: Nowadays, you can use antifungal nail-paints so that the deepest layer of the nail can be well treated and infected parts can be healed quickly. But you have to continue the usage for a few months, or else, you will not be able to get the desirable results.
  3. Laser treatment: This treatment is one of the most powerful ones and can treat your infected nail with greater speed and accuracy. Light energy in high doses is used for treating nail infection in this case. The above treatments are really quite helpful, and you can choose any of them as per your necessity, preference and affordability.

Things you can do at home:

  1. Keep your hands and feet clean and dry
  2. Wear well fitting shoes made of natural materials and clean cotton socks, these will allow your feet to "breathe"
  3. Clip your nails to keep them short, use a separate pair of clippers or scissors for the infected nail
  4. Don't share towels and socks with other people, and ensure your towels are washed regularly
  5. Don't walk around barefoot in public pools, showers, and locker rooms, special shower shoes are available to protect your feet
  6. Consider replacing old footwear as it could be the source of the infection
  7. Treat athlete's foot as soon as possible to avoid the infection spreading to your nails

Here Are the Common Causes of Acne

Here Are the Common Causes of Acne

Acne is a teenager's biggest worry. However, it can occur at any age. Acne or acne vulgaris occurs when oil, dead skin or bacteria block the pores on your skin. Though it is not dangerous, acne can be embarrassing and can leave scars on your skin. Severe acne can also be quite painful. Pimples in the form of blackheads and whiteheads are the main symptoms of acne. These can usually be seen on the face, back, chest, shoulders and neck of acne patients. Apart from these, painful lumps under the surface of the skin and red raised bumps can also be found on the skin of acne patients.

Acne can be triggered by a number of factors. Here are some of the common triggers for acne:

  1. Stress: The severity of acne can be correlated to the levels of stress a person is facing. While scientists are yet to figure the exact relationship between stress and acne; it is known that the cells that produce sebum or oil also act as stress receptors. Studies suggest that when a person is under stress, these cells produce excessive sebum that clogs pores on the skin leading to pimples.
  2. Hormones: Hormones play an important role in skin health especially when it comes to women. Androgens or the male hormones present in both men and women, trigger acne by over stimulating the oil glands. Women may also see an increase in pimples during menstruation. This is due to the fluctuating levels of progesterone that stimulate the production of sebum.
  3. Genetics: If one or both parents have acne, their children have high chances of suffering from it as well. Genes influence the sensitivity of your skin towards hormones such as androgens and progesterone that trigger acne. They also influence the production of anti inflammatory chemicals in the skin and skin's response to bacteria.
  4. Medication: Acne is one of the side effects to a few types of medication such as corticosteroids and anticonvulsants. However, this is not seen very often. On the other hand, drugs that contain hormones such as androgenic steroids almost always cause an acne breakout.

Treatment for acne depends on the severity of the condition and its persistence. Mild cases can be easily treated with over the counter medication, but if your acne is severe and not affected by these medications, it best to consult a dermatologist.

Some allergies caused due to medications that primarily affect your skin are:

  1. Itches and rashes: Sometimes your body may be allergic to certain type of medications. If these drugs are taken by you then the immune system treats them as foreign invasions and triggers a reaction against them. In certain cases, on consuming a drug that your body is allergic to, a kind of white blood cell called T cells expand. Itching, rashes on the skin are common repercussions in such a scenario.
  2. Swelling on the face and throat: Often it happens that, on being administered a medicine or an injection, you may experience severe swelling on face and throat. This is an extreme case of medicinal side effect and is commonly known as anaphylaxis. This must be immediately treated and brought to the notice of a trained doctor.
  3. Blisters: This is also an important potential side effect of a drug. On being administered a drug, you may experience an erosion on the surface of lips and eyes as a reaction against it. Immediate treatment and a visit to the doctor is imperative if you experience these symptoms.

5 Foods for Great-looking Skin

Creams and lotions alone cannot give you flawless skin. For your skin to glow, pay attention to what you eat. Your skin is constantly shedding cells that are replaced by new cells. Eating the right food gives these new cells all the nutrients they require to stay fresh, soft and supple. To make your skin blemish free, try adding these five ingredients to your meals.

  1. Spinach - Don't eat spinach only for its iron. Spinach also contains vitamin A and B that are known for their anti- aging properties. This helps prevent the formation of wrinkles and removes dead skin. Vitamin B also protects the skin from the effect of UV rays and skin cancer. It is also high in lutein that boosts skin elasticity and prevents your skin from drying out.
  2. Green tea - Green tea has been used to cure everything from headaches to acne and is high in antioxidants and flavonoids. These have anti-inflammatory properties that help prevent wrinkles. Green tea fights acne by lowering the levels of acne producing hormones. It also helps flush toxins from the skin and improves the skin elasticity.
  3. Garlic - Garlic is rich in sulphur that prevents infections and helps reduce inflammations. Thus, it prevents breakouts on the skin and helps the skin glow by enhancing blood flow. Sulphur also helps the body produce collagen thus keeping skin firm and supple. Garlic also has a large amount of allicin that is associated with anti-fungal and anti-aging benefits and helps smoothen skin.
  4. Tomatoes - The high antioxidant properties of tomatoes protect the skin from the effects of sun exposure. Another skin friendly element contained in tomatoes is lycopene that controls an acne producing hormone and protects the skin from UV rays. This also fights cellular damage and keeps the skin hydrated thus reducing wrinkles. The Vitamins A and C present in tomatoes help treat existing acne and rashes.
  5. Berries - Berries are loaded with antioxidants that help the skin stay blemish free and fight acne. Berries are also rich sources of Vitamin C that help produce collagen to keep the skin from sagging. The ellagic acid present in berries also fights damage caused by the sun. Lastly, the essential fatty acids in berries keep the skin hydrated and smooth.

Eating the right food has an almost immediate effect on the skin. However, in most cases it cannot reverse the effects of aging that can already be seen on your skin. So, don't wait to see your first wrinkle before you begin paying attention to your diet.

One such benefit of exercise is improved skin health. Proper and regular exercise is known to keep the skin healthy and flawless through many different ways.

5. Toned muscles - Exercise tones the muscles in the body, which makes the skin clean and tight and prevents the formation of cellulite. This keeps the skin from sagging and gives it an unblemished appearance.

6. Improved gland function - Functioning of the mucous glands and sweat glands in the skin is improved through exercising. This keeps the skin free from pimples and acne and makes it look spotless and resplendent.

Why are Cystic Acne so Hurtful?

All you need to know about Cystic acne

Cystic acne is a dermatological condition in which the skin pores get blocked causing infection and inflammation. Over secretion of sebum creates an optimal environment for the bacteria trapped in the pores to thrive; and the bacterium, Propionibacterium acnes is responsible for this condition.

This form of acne occurs when the infection occurs deep within the skin causing a painful, swollen, red bump filled with pus. It usually takes place during teens or the late 20's. An estimated, 80% of the people suffer from cystic acne between 11 and 30 years of age.

The primary reasons for cystic acne are:

- Hormonal changes pertaining to puberty, menstruation, pregnancy or birth control
- Greasy cosmetics, lotions, and soaps that cause allergy can also lead to this form of acne
- An inherited tendency for acne can also be a likely cause

Cystic acne tends to produce inflammatory cysts and nodules, which are visible and painful. In addition, they pose the danger of causing visible scarring and shallow depressions on the face.

Usual medicines, which are used to treat mild acne, have little effect on cystic acne, what you must do in this case:

- Use of oral antibiotics, which helps to keep the bacteria in check and also reduce inflammation
- Birth control pills are often effective treatment for regulating hormones in women

Some of the preventative measures would be:

- Not touching the cysts is advisable as it can lead the infection to spread
- Relaxation and adequate sleep are also recommended as stress causes the body to release more hormones which can worsen the condition
- Some studies indicate diet low in sugar also help to reduce the condition

What Causes WARTs? Can We Prevent it?

What causes warts? Can we prevent it?

Warts are small formations that occur on the skin. They appear in the form of dark protruding bumps or brown flat lesion on the skin surface. Sometimes they might also have tiny black specks on them. Warts usually form on the hands, feet, face and genitals, although they may appear on other parts of the body in some cases.

What causes the formation of warts?

Common warts are caused due to infection of the outermost layer of skin that occurs as a result of viral contamination. The virus that is responsible for this condition belongs to the human papillomavirus (HPV) family.

This infection is highly contagious and easily spreads from one person to the next. It is most likely to occur on skin that is cut or damaged as that allows easy access for the virus to enter the skin system.

How to prevent the formation of warts?

Common warts are contagious and spread very easily. Preventing the spread of the HPV virus can be done through simple steps that will help you avoid getting affected by this condition.

Some of the preventive measures that can be adopted are as follows:

- grooming, brushing and shaving around infected areas should be done with care

- moisture and dampness should be avoided as the virus thrives on it

Do not self-medicate with lime (chuna), garlic, onion or Dettol.
