Laser Hair Removal - Treatment, Procedure And Side Effects

What is the treatment?

Removing hair regularly by waxing or using a razor can be a hassle and might even cause bumps or rashes to develop. The laser hair removal technique is efficient, safe and its effect lasts permanently or at least for an extended period of time. Laser hair removal is a common cosmetic procedure that destroys the hair follicles from the area you require.

This procedure can remove the hair from your legs, hands, back, face, bikini line or any other part according to your needs. Though the hair removal lasts for an extensive period, permanent hair removal is not always guaranteed.

The procedure involves an intense laser beam destroying and removing the unwanted hair from your body. During the procedure, a high-intensity laser beam passes through the body and damages individual hair follicles. This ensures that future hair growth is inhibited and that the effects are permanent.

With the advancements of technology, the laser technique can target individual hair and remove them according to your specifications. It can also leave the other areas with lighter or thin hair unaffected. The process may involve a few sessions of hair removal in order to ensure that the effects are permanent.

How is the treatment done?

Laser hair removal is a medical procedure that can involve certain health risks. Therefore, before the treatment is important to avoid waxing or shaving hair since this might affect the process of hair removal and also avoid excessive exposure to the sun.

At the start of the procedure, your hair will be trimmed up to a few millimeters. Then the laser device is adjusted according to your skin color and thickness of the hair that will be removed. In order to protect your skin during the process, the doctor will then apply a cooling gel on the skin.

The procedure begins with the doctor activating the laser equipment and then monitoring the patient throughout the process. If any inappropriate reactions occur, the doctor will discontinue the procedure.

During the procedure, a laser beam passes through the outer layer of skin to the follicles, which is the root of the hair. The intensity of the light and heat of the laser targets these hair follicles and destroys them. Laser technology is quick and efficient; it takes approximately a minute to remove the hair from the upper lip. However, areas where hair growth is dense and thick might take a few hours to complete.

The procedure is not painful, though you may experience certain tingling or slight stinging sensations during the hair removal process. After the procedure is complete, ointments, lotions or ice-packs are applied. This is to ensure that there is no inflammatory reaction and to relieve any discomfort.

Who is eligible for the treatment? (When is the treatment done?)

Laser hair removal is a common medical procedure that almost anyone can avail. Those who are eligible for this hair removal procedure are as follows:

  • People who are light skinned with hair growth that is dark and thick. Hair removal works most effectively with these people since the laser equipment targets the melanin present in the hair.
  • For both men and women who want to remove the hair from their hands, legs, underarms, upper lip and back.

Who is not eligible for the treatment?

In certain cases, laser hair removal might not be recommended. Here are the reasons why:

  • It is not possible to perform hair removal of eyelashes since the area surrounding the eyes are sensitive.
  • Some laser equipment only works successfully on people of certain complexions. But laser hair removal might not be as effective for people with blonde, red or white hair and for people with a darker complexion.

Are there any side effects?

Though laser hair removal is a relatively safe procedure, a few side effects may occur. The side effects after the procedure include:

  • The affected skin may form blisters that burn and hurt.
  • The most common side effect is skin irritation.
  • Certain changes in color and texture of the skin have been observed in some cases.
  • Changes in hair color and growth are also possible. In a few cases, the hair color changed to gray, while with others the hair growth became denser.

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

There are certain guidelines that you should follow after the treatment. The medical practitioner might recommend the following guidelines post-treatment:

  • After laser hair removal, your skin might swell and become red. The doctor will suggest a cream, anti-inflammatory lotion or even a steroid ointment to soothe the burning sensation and the swellings.
  • Applying an ice pack to the affected areas will reduce the swelling.
  • It is advisable to avoid direct and excess sun exposure in the recovery period. Since exposure to the sun can aggravate the inflammation and sensitive skin.
  • The hair that has been treated might continue to fall off over a period of one to three weeks after the procedure.

How long does it take to recover?

The laser hair removal treatment has few side effects and hence the recovery process is quick. Some patients may recover within a day or two, while others might require two to three weeks for recovery.

What is the price of the treatment in India?

The price for laser hair removal varies according to the clinic and the city. The price in India for laser hair removal would be approximately Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000.

Are the results of the treatment permanent?

The results of laser hair removal treatment vary from person to person. Its efficacy depends on the clinic you go to as well as skills of the dermatologist. Some studies show that 90% of the people who undergo this procedure achieve permanent hair removal after a series of sessions. But in a number of cases, the results were ineffective.

What are the alternatives to the treatment?

Some alternatives to laser hair removal are:

  • Sugar waxing: This procedure can be used instead of waxing with honey or hard wax. It boasts of little to no side effects.
  • Electrolysis: This process removes hair with an electric gadget. Hair removal can last for extensive periods of time. But this process is time-consuming.
Safety: High Effectiveness: High Timeliness: Medium Relative Risk: Medium Side Effects: Low Recovery Time: Low Price Range: Rs. 15000 - Rs. 30000

Things You Should Know Before Getting Laser Hair Removal!
Body hair are typically seen as a manly attribution. For this reason, both men and women are constantly trying to keep their body hair free. Common ways of removing body hair includes shaving, waxing and the use of Depilatories. However, none of these techniques can permanently remove hair and hence need to be repeated regularly. The only way to permanently remove body hair is through laser hair removal therapy. Laser hair removal can be used to address and remove hair on almost any part of the body including the face, arms, legs and bikini line. This procedure involves focusing intense light on the hair follicle pigments known as melanin without affecting the surrounding skin. The melanin absorbs this light energy and converts it to heat energy which in turn stops the stem cells in the hair roots from regenerating. This weakens the hair follicles to the point of falling off. Hair removal is considered permanent when the hair follicles do not grow back. After the first session, new hair growth is often lighter and less dense than before. On an average, complete hair removal may require 5 to 6 laser sessions. Since laser therapy can be used to address only those follicles that are in the growing stage, these sessions are usually spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. During this time the hair follicles that were in the resting phase can grow out. The number of sessions required also depends on the quality and number of hair follicles, individual s hormone levels, and metabolism. In some cases where hair growth is very dense, maintenance treatment may be required once in six months or annually. The procedure is relatively pain free. During the treatment, the patient may experience a faint prick or sensation of warmth. When treating sensitive areas, topical anesthesia may also be used. However, this is rarely needed. This form of laser therapy can take anywhere between 5 to 45 minutes for a single session depending on the amount of area being addressed. Laser hair removal is considered a safe procedure and has minimal side effects. In some cases, it may cause a temporary change in the color of the skin of the treated area, but this usually resolves itself without medication. This can be prevented by using a good sunscreen with UVA and UVB protection and avoiding exposure to sunlight. In rare cases, people with a dark complexion may develop blisters and experience swelling and redness of the skin.

Risk Factors Of Laser Hair Removal!
Laser hair removal refers to a process in which a special laser light is spread upon hair follicles. Pigments in the hair follicles absorb the light and this stops the hair from growing. There are several advantages as well and risks associated with laser hair removal treatment. Here is everything you need to know about laser hair removal. Advantages: Precision: One of the biggest advantages of laser hair removal is the fact that you can pick and choose and remove only the hair, which you want to remove, which is not the case with waxing. Speed: Laser hair removal is relatively quick as an area, roughly equal to the size of one coin can be treated within a second. Therefore, small areas which need to be treated can be treated in under a minute while the whole back can have all the hair on it treated in about an hour. Reliability: Laser hair removal is very predictable and reliable due to the fact that hair growth will permanently be reduced if this treatment is opted for. What not to do? Laser hair removal like any other treatment requires trained professionals as well as some precautions. Here are some precautions you should take before laser hair removal treatment. Limit plucking, electrolysis and waxing: All of these treatments remove the root of the hair. This is not good as the laser hair removal treatment is meant to be performed on the root of the hair. These should not be done for six weeks before treatment. Avoid sun exposure: Exposure to the sun creates complications and should be avoided for up to six weeks before treatment and also six weeks after treatment. Risks: There are also few risks of laser hair removal, about which you should be aware of. These include: Blisters and sunburns: Even though blisters are rare, sunburns are pretty common. Can Hirsutism Be Treated With Homeopathy?
Hirsutism is a growth of dark and coarse hair in the regions of a woman s body where there should be typically very fine or no hair at all, including lip, chin, chest, back and abdomen. This growth is caused by an excessive male hormone called androgen, which all women have naturally. It can be caused due to idiopathic hirsutism and polycystic ovary syndrome and both of these can be diagnosed by physical evaluation, clinical and familial history and also blood tests that help in excluding some of the rare causes of hirsutism. Effectiveness of homeopathic treatment In the modern era of allopathy or conventional treatments, hormonal treatments are not successful in establishing a permanent cure of excessive hair growth among women, as the approach is limited to the level of the disease alone, and it doesn t try to help the situation by eradicating the root cause. However, homeopathy offers a much comprehensive treatment in treating hirsutism without provoking any imbalance in the existing hormonal cycles. Choosing homeopathy over other treatments In stark contrast to painful treatment methods like electrolysis, laser therapy and chemical hair removal, the magical doses of homeopathic medications can help you in combating hirsutism to a great extent. It focuses on the conditions of the individual as well as the pathological condition. The medications are selected by an expert after a complete evaluation and case analysis that include the physical and mental constitution of the patient. The predisposition tendency of the patient is often taken into consideration for treating the chronic conditions. How homeopathy helps in treating abnormal hair growth The medicines recommended by the experts first try to reduce the harmful effects of the allopathic pills and treatments, and then the remedies act on the different glands for making them work and secrete hormones in an optimal manner. The hormone levels slowly come to normal and the treatment succeeds in creating a dynamic action in regulating and revitalising. With the regulation of the hormone levels, the growth of the unwanted hair lessens and finally reduces after regular treatment. It also helps in reducing the weight of the patient, which in turn lowers the androgen levels that are deemed responsible for the excessive growth of hair. Additionally, homeopathic treatment helps in correcting the genetic predisposition of the disease which prevents it from coming back. If you are suffering from hirsutism, then you must not neglect it in any way and consult a homeopathic expert who can help you get rid of the condition.

First of all , stop oiling your hair if you have dandruff as it will further aggravate the condition.Use ketoconazole shampoo twice a week for dandruff. While diet plays a key role in hairfall, a stressful lifestyle can play havoc. Simple lifestyle changes such as, getting seven hours of sleep, having a glass of water every hour (strands are made up of minerals, which only water can replenish) and eating protein-rich foods at regular intervals can bring about an 80 per cent change.Start taking zinc and biotin supplements. For greying , you may use altris gel for few months. Apart from these natural treatments, you may consult a trichologist for further help.

Hello can you please tell me is there any natural way to permanently remove hair from hand and legs.

Dr. Nazima 85% (1288 ratings)

To remove hairs from hand and leg permanently 1) Sugar mixed with water, lemon and honey is a very good home remedy to remove unwanted hair from your body.-In a small bowl, take sugar, lemon and honey and mix them well. Heat this mixture for three minutes in a vessel to make it a smooth, free flowing paste. If you find the paste to be a bit thick, add water and mix well. Allow this mixture to cool at room temperature. Clean the body parts where you need to apply this mixture and then dust it with cornstarch or all purpose flour. Use the waxing spatula and apply a generous amount of warm sugar, lemon and honey mixture on the areas where you do not want to see unwanted hair. Apply it in the direction of the hair growth and once done cover it with a cloth or waxing strips and press to make it stick on the paste. Pull the strip in the opposite direction if your hair growth to effectively remove unwanted hair, You can repeat this process whenever you spot unwanted hair growth on your hands or legs. 2) Banana and Oatmeal Scrub-Take a ripe banana and mash it in such a way that it becomes a paste. To this bowl of banana paste, add one or two teaspoons of oatmeal and mix it well. Apply generous amount of this paste on unwanted hairs on your body and then rub it in circular motion. Allow this paste to sit on unwanted hair areas for 15 to 20 minutes and then wash it off with water to remove the paste completely. Repeat this process two times in a week for a few weeks to get rid of unwanted hair from your body parts as well as face. Make sure that you also stick to a healthy diet plan along with regular bouts of exercise to regulate your hormone levels and to reduce the growth of unwanted hair.
