About

Topic Image

Crohn's disease is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that affects the gastrointestinal tract anywhere from mouth to anus. Patients suffering from Crohn's disease are found that certain foods trigger the intestinal symptoms, especially when the disease flares. Learning to avoid these food triggers may allow to self-manage Crohn's disease, reduce gastrointestinal symptoms, and promote intestinal healing.

The patients suffering from Crohn’s Disease might experience:

  1. Malabsorption: Inflammation in the small intestine can make it more difficult to absorb nutrients.
  2. Lack of Appetite: Experiencing nausea and vomiting can set your mood of skipping the meals. This can make it difficult to get enough calories and nutrients.
  3. Malnutrition: Eating less, or following a diet that isn’t healthy, to avoid symptoms if there are numerous bowel movements during the day can cause malnutrition.
  4. Increased Energy Needs: Having a chronic disease like Crohn’s can increase the body’s energy expenditure, so its needed to consume more calories to maintain the body weight.

So it is important to stick to a diet plan as given above.
