Hye. Thankyou for the query. Depending on the blood glucose levels sugar may or may not be prescribed in planned diets. As for tea is concerned, there is no problem in having chai tea. Artificial sweetness are best avoided. You can sweeten the tea with natural sweetness like green tea, peppermint, mint, cardamom or nutmeg. Get her sugar levels assessed by your doctor. If all is good some amount of cane sugar could be planned into her diabetic diet plan.

Mr. Lybrate-user, if she has diabetes, is it in control? if control is good then fasting sugar should be around 100 mg, pp 150 to 160 mg, hba1c<7%. If this is achieved, then it is fine. For her it is always good to take tea without sugar. Because sugar increases blood glucose very rapidly. Even using sugar free tablets is not good, as safety of these products is in doubt. Those products tend to increase craving for sugar, can add weight and have multiple other side effects. It is better to get used to taking tea and coffee without sugar. Thanks for the question.

Hi, consumption of sugar depends upon the values of blood sugar a person if having. If your mother has slightly increased blood sugar then she can have little bit of normal sugar intake, but if she is suffering from high blood sugar then need to cut down sugar intake totally. You can consult a nutritionist for that.
