Treating a long standing depression without medicines is like treating a fracture with getting a plaster done. However you may opt for congnitive behaviour therapy sessions under a trained therapist. The therapist may decide the number of sessions required according to the type and severity of depression that you have. You may also try lifestyle modifications like daily exercises, relaxation techniques like deep breathing, joining groups, communities, nurturing your hobbies etc. These help in alleviation of symptoms of depression too.
