I am a diabetic. I am prescribed glycomet 250 3 doses I get nausea and vomiting after a week is it due to metformin. Are there any alternatives to metformin.

I have seen the details mentioned. In some people Metformin is not well tolerated, so it is advised after food. It is the first drug used in T2 DM to control blood glucose when levels are not too high. Since there is no mention of other vital details like fasting, PP glucose,  HbA1c5, weight, height, gender, age (because the name is of a male and below it is mentioned as female), extent of exercise and dietary details, no further comments can be made. Please come back with all the specifics. Then an alternate medication can be suggested. Thanks.

Dear Mr. lybrate-user usually the dose is prescribed twice daily. Moreover it should be taken after food to reduce nausea and vomiting. If you still have these symptioms, or if they are unmanageable ,your medication can be changed. Do not worry.

please take it after food.  you can take omeprazole 20 before food.  It might take 2-3 weeks for you to tolerate. If you can't metformin can be switched.
